My friend Gordon Scala (deceased) used to race at Weissglass Stadium in Staten Island, NY back in the 50's. He used to meet a guy there named Gomez who used to tune his bike, and prep it for the track after he rode it there!
I got talking to him about AHRMA Dirt, and Flat Track, and in passing I said something like "they only use the break going into a turn", he said "THEY USE BRAKES?". I guess I had no idea that they may have ALL been "brakeless" at that point! He was kind enough to sign the photo he gave me to that effect. We played a lot of pool, and BS'd a lot about old Triumphs. I was glad I got to take him to a "new" Triumph dealer in Metuchen, NJ, and let him see the modern Triumphs! I think he said his bike was a 1949?
If anyone has anything to contribute, or comment on, or knew Gordon please let me know.
