Hi all, As you know from previous threads, I am currently restoring my family's 54 Thunderbird. I am also the owner of a non matching numbers 52 6T. While I am in the UK I will be picking up some parts for my current restoration including a decal kit. Does anyone know if Triumph used the same decal kit for the Blackbird or were they a special one off kit. Thanks in advance
The bike was purchased as a sad warehouse orphan in November 2021. It required a lot of work and additional parts to get it to this point, but I need to sell it to make room for the next project - a '75 GL1000. Asking price is $4000 US or Best Offer. Shipping, handling, taxes etc. responsibility of purchaser. Title in-hand. Located in Clinton, TN (just North of Knoxville).
Engine has been stripped down to cylinders off to permit thorough cleaning of the crankcase, flushing of oil channels, reseal of the case, and correction of MANY previous owner issues. Brakes cleaned, inspected, and re-lubricated. Forks rebuilt and filled with synthetic ATF. New lower head bearing. Frame de-rusted, primed, and painted with Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy. A USB drive of photos from the rebuild, plus parts lists and manuals goes with the sale.
Features: fresh paint with 2K clearcoat, Oil Frame [probably a T140V] saddle in excellent condition remounted to the T150V frame. Unknown Japanese origin front fender, ebay rear fender spliced to a bobbed T150 front half and blended, pit bike mufflers that sound good and look right, rewelded SS header painted with BBQ paint, complete rewire to negative ground with modern SS reg-rect [charges well], ALL lighting is LED, Euro-style handlebars with new grips, ebay kill switch, GL1000 left bar controls and GL1000 headlight bucket with LED indicators, Oil pressure gauge plumbed in with SS tubing from engine to steering head, replacement used clocks - milage is unknown, aftermarket mirrors on replacement perches, chromed rocker covers with silicone gaskets, chromed carburetor bodies. Many small round gaskets replace with "Dowty" washers. New rubbers, new Shinko tires (and tubes/rim bands), 16" rear rim [HD-style].
This will be listed on Facebook Marketplace and perhaps other sites as I see fit. Not in a hurry to sell, but need the space to start on the '75 GoldWing.
Good: much work done and PO issues corrected. Starts and runs good, the little I have ridden, it has performed well and pulled hard. Not good: oil pressure drops very low when it heats up [over 70 psi when cool]. Might need bottom end gone through. Odd: needs gas tank level to be over half to really tickle for easy starting. Left foot brake, right foot shift has me afraid to ride it much - I keep down-shifting instead of rear braking. [video:youtube][/video]
I'm working on a special using a 5TA/T100 motor - the oil tank has been adapted from the existing side panel by brazing in the return pipe and welding a panel across the back of the panel. The problem is there is loads of oil coming out of the rocker box/head area and I can see only a dribble returning to the oil tank. I suspect that when the tank was made it resulted in either a small vent hole being drilled or that the brazing had partially blocked it. The pipe does not look as long as the one in my '68 650, making me think it was cut down to fit the side panel. The T-junction where the rocker feed comes off looks like original Triumph, so the size of that feed is OK.
Anyone already know or have parts lying around that they could measure the size of the vent hole in the return pipe inside the tank ?
On my 650 you can see the oil being pumped back into the oil tank even at tickover. I might be able to get a drill in with everything in situ but it would be safer to remove the tank, drill and flush I guess. Obviously don't want to make it too big in case there isn't enough flow to the rockers.
1. All my embedded images in the several threads I checked have been replaced with the words '[Linked Image]'.
2. When I refresh the forum on my laptop (PC) the 'loading' symbol continues to circle even after it's refreshed.
3. When I refresh the forum on my iPhone, the 'X' appears at the lower right of the screen, which often also displays the top of the current page of the thread. I have to tap the 'X' to get the circular refresh symbol to appear, at which point it jumps to the location in the thread where it had been when I first hit the refresh symbol, i.e. to where it should have jumped when I first hit refresh.
Looking for a set of trees for a Triumph preunit trophy, parts are 97-0380 top clamp and 97-0942 or 97-1229 for the stem. Doesn't have to be perfect, building this bike on a budget. Thanks all!
