FOR SALE; 1972 BSA A 70L (BSA’s 750cc twin) for the sum of $3250.00. Clean Mass. title, matching numbers, a complete and stock motorcycle, with all it’s original parts and then some. Complete rolling chassis with all of its cycle parts mounted and intact. The engine is _ALL_ apart. Balanced at Lindskog Balancing, Boxborough, MA., crankshaft was meticulously done by Rick Stetson at Harry’s Machined Parts in Northborough, MA.
The chrome on this bike has rust speckles on the fenders, handle bars, fork tubes, fender supports, anything that is chrome plated. It was stored in a supposedly dry garage, but still somehow got some humidity.
For anybody that was there this bike was at the 2006 BSA International Rally, going through final assembly and attempted** starting at the rally. ** Ignition was the culprit.

For some photos and the story, PM to Original Poster

Never thought I'd see another A70 for sale at a price that a regular person could afford, even if it's in bits and pieces.

I'd be on this if I didn't already have two motorcycles in this degree of 'deshabille', which I might not get to in my lifetime!

Can you please post the pics of the "original" pieces, especially the gas tank and the engine components/pieces?

For goodness sake, somebody just buy it and think about it later. It's a bargain, even without the engine work.

If I could work out how to ship it home, it would be on its way to the land down under.

I'd give $600 for the crank. Or $1500 for the complete engine.

Ok, you guys want pictures. What exactly would you like me to take pictures of? I initially wrote down a list of possibilities, but then deleted them as I thought it might make me sound testy, sigh!. So seriously what photos would you all like to see? Please remember that "they all look alike". I'll do my best to oblige.
Ron

P.S. I'm not splitting up a titled bike like this. I'm disappointed that someone would even ask!!!

I wouldn’t split it either. A rare model should be kept as together as possible, a lot must have been broken otherwise with being used for racing etc.

If I could find an importer I would snap your hand off for it.

You and me both, Allan. Actually, the import/export paperwork might not be too bad; it's the shipping which is a killer for me.

They were built and used for flat track racing and the BSA frame wasn't up for that, so most were split up with the engine going into a purpose built frame like a "Trackmaster". A70L's with matching numbers were usually used as street bikes and are pretty scarce.
I have the original small tank in "Eutruscan bronze" I think it was called, but the original owner removed the little fluorescent orange pin stripe that should be on it. I put a larger tank on mine and had it and the side covers painted red by an autobody shop(my son).
It has what were "new" tires, back in 2006 when I took it to the International rally. I brought it back home got it started (timimg isue) + trying a new Podtronics ign. Drove it around the block in my neighborhood, noted a really low oil pressure at speed(40mph). Shut it down pushed it home, tore the engine down again, took it to Rick Stetson where he diagnosed several anomalies with the crank(which had just been done by another shop) Fixed the problems, brought it back home put it on a work bench, went out and bought a new BMW R1100R and never looked back.
So........... For Sale 1972 BSA A70L $3250.00!!!

Gentlemen.
Here are some more photos I didn't clean anything up, dust etc. comes with the parts;
Two gas tanks, the red one I had on the bike to match side covers, other came on the bike(incorrect color) when i bought it. I misspoke on the size of the red one.
New in 2006, exhaust pipes and mufflers, and seat.
Crank shaft
AND two side views of the pile of parts that make up the engine, I'll even throw in the cart and engine mount to the buyer if wanted. I'm not going to separate the parts for individual photos. The chromed inner timing side cover is an extra cover that found it's way on to the cart, doesn't belong there. The engine is all here!!!

Very happy that it sold here, I trust buyer and seller are pleased as well.

Always good to see sales happen here, rather than e-bay, just because.

I agree with Vincent ... I hope you start a project thread on this and update it as you make progress. I seriously thought about buying this, although I already have two projects in the same state of disassembly, so I didn't.

But I can watch what you do and see what might have been!!
