Many thanks for all of your inputs and suggestions.
I took the oil tank that I had painted outside my shop today to see if natural light made any difference (thanks P Jones for that suggestion).
I attach photos showing the oil tank outside in the May New Jersey sun.
No difference compared with the previous photos that were taken inside as far as I could see.
Still very greenish.

The other thing I did today (in between preparing the plot and planting eggplants (aubergines to UK readers), tomatoes, peppers and basil ) was to take the lid off the second tin of "dove grey" that I had bought.
The thought was that maybe there had been a mistake and the second tin is the proper Dove Grey color.
But no-- one look at the paint in the tin confirmed that same greenish hue of the first tin.

Time tomorrow I think to give Don Hutchinson a call and see if he can throw any light on the matter.

Failing that I am still mulling over in the background whether to go for the proper dove grey color (thanks for the suggestions) as per the production bikes or whether to build it as if it were the concept bike with silver frame etc.

Decisions decisions----

That little grey Fergie of rafs to me looks to have a tinge of the greenish/blueish hue too.
Or perhaps I am going color blind in my old age?

Looks like "Seafoam Green". I saw way too much of that color in the Navy.

Called Don Hutchinson today and we had a good chat.
Don was at a bit of a loss to explain it but very positive and helpful.
He wondered if a second coat might be the answer.
I very much doubt it but agreed to give the oil tank a second coat this week.
I am then away in California for a week for my grandsons fifth birthday so that will give the second coat time to fully dry.
Then when I get back I will recontact Don with the results of the second coat.
If no different (as I expect) then Don will mix another tin and let me have it.
So probably no further progress report for a couple of weeks.
Such is life--------!!!!!!

So-- I am now back from CA having been there for my grandsons fifth birthday.
Before I left 12 days ago I gave the A75RV oil tank a second coat of what is supposed to be Dove Grey.
When I painted it it did not look any different from the first coat--- very greenish.
But-- as suggested by Don Hutchinson--- I left it to fully dry.
Yesterday to my untrained eye it was no different from just the first coat (see photo taken yesterday).
So yesterday I called Don and we had a good chat.
He cannot understand it--- that made me feel a bit better as I dont understand it either.
Don was very helpful--- giving a great example of how we all would like a supplier to react if there is a problem.
Don is going to mix another tin of "Dove Grey" and send it to me.
So until I get it --- watch this space.
I could get on with other things on the bike but I am fully tied up at the moment with the Rutts Ripper Old Bike Night scheduled for Wednesday 14th June (see Events page) so probably nothing will happen until I get the fresh paint from Don.
Aaaaah!-- the trials and tribulations of Brit bike restorations!
