500 miles after fitting a new big bore barrel and pistons, bike running great, but one base nut has come off and the base gasket has failed in that area. Other base nuts not coming undone (yet) but not overly tight either. Hindsight tells me I should’ve been checking them regularly and nipping them up as the gasket compressed.

I did them up by feel in the absence of being able to torque them, didn’t use loctite or sealant.

What should I do differently next time?

Cheers

I always remove every base stud and clean thoroughly

I use blue loctite on the studs with blind holes and seal each stud that does not have a blind hole in which oil can sneak through
