my engine came back missing a bunch of stuff, kick start spring and washer, gear shifter spring, and associated parts, got new parts for the gear shifter, any tricks or things to look out for when installing? 1968 Spitfire, thanks

The video , shows the tab facing out, if I fit my 71 like that it fouls on the outer casing, it doesnt foul if the tab faces in.
I have a thing about mole grips, dont like them, for this job i hold the tab on the flats with a hose clamp/ jubilee clip, then pull the spring eye round with a piece of wire, no bite marks.

Yes, Jon! That's the one. That's how I go after em every time now.

I've had them take me 2 minutes, or sometimes 2 days. Often requires bandaids, and maybe some valium. I've tried making a special tool.

Then, although I often feel like I know it all about A65s, I saw a youtube of a guy doing it and it changed my whole approach. I'll look for that, but look around for a youtube of a guy with just a pair of needle nose vise-grips and a screwdriver. By far the best method I ever tried, can't remember who he is.

Make sure the plate is smooth with no burrs on it and fits nice. Make sure you got the correct spring, I've been sent wrong ones. It can help to have an assist from someone to help knock the plate on right there at the last minute.
