I was starting to drool. Named it Stunner and think its a worthy monthly photo contender. Not mine (you can tell since mine all have battle damage). Found the link to it while reading posts on the BSA only discussion board this week about electric start.

Not a whole lot left on that bike that's actually BSA, but it is a pretty bike. I guarantee that it needs to get ridden more!!!

I was amused to see twin Monoblocs, bur when I thought about it something was a bit odd. As far as I know Monoblocs only had the float chamber in the left hand side (hence the ones with chopped float chambers used in twin carb setups). The BSA in the picture had a mirror- image Monobloc on the right. They made a whole new carburettor for the right hand side!

Past history includes 11 Brit and 13 non-Brit machines.
Some impressive and some just silly.

AMAL made a right hand version of the 389/ , with 698/ with 689 as the prefix . ( thanks T.T. , for the correction )
As far as I know , only used for one year ... before the switch to Concentrics .( ...so ... 1966 production year )
the right hand was paired and used on some Bsa , Norton' and matchless twins

the righthanded BSA carb would have been stamped 689/228 or 689/229

689, not 698.

Thanks, I had no idea about that. The illustration raises another question. I have only seen Monobloc float chamber caps with pipes on the earlier "chopped" sets, because the two carbs shared the left hand float. Is it possible that in the picture the right carb was generated by flipping an image of the left carb of a chopped pair?
Notwithstanding that, I see that there is a genuine pair (with picture) for sale at Hitchcock's Motorcycles in the U.K. (PART No. USED7114).

The BSA is a thing of beauty.

The graphics in first pic could be a flipped image used in a catalog , dont know , snagged it from the web .
( there is something weird about it though , with the extra hose connections )
... these are not needed with a right and left hand monoblok . .. because each has its own float

the right carb on the custom bike is a correct right handed carb .
( you can zoom in on the images of the bike and see what looks like ( 229 ) stamped on the flange .
The pictures are so slick , I thought maybe the bike wasnt real and just photoshopped ... but there is a video of the bike running

For the curious , there is currently a right handed 689/228 listed on flea-bay ... looks like this
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AMAL-mon...dated-12-66-for-restoration/325537034222

/228 and /229 is what the book says is correct for Lightnings and hornets , 1966
