Hi All,
I saw a link to this to a company supplying A65 and Triumph electric starter kits on Facebook
It is news to me ?
I have no connection to this company what so ever

That looks nice and expensive.
Shame about the belt drive though.

Installing the Triumph kit involves butchering the inner primary, unfortunately.

It looks a much better system than Triumph's electric start for the twins.

There didn't seem to be a lot of information on installing the BSA kit.

On the A65, looks as though the primary cover is spaced out. Picture only shows with rear sets so possibly stock peg and brake do not fit? Same with the Triumph.
I got a lot of noise for putting the starter on the primary side.

That setup you were doing for the a65 looked great, i don't know why you abandoned it.

Do you do a starter conversion for twins as well that people are grizzling about? We don't see nearly enough about your upgrades.

Not abandoned. The problem is having to make a broach to cut the basket slots, a clamp to hold the CNC spindle from turning so the slots can be broached with the rotary table, making the ring gear and intermediate gear, spacer plate/starter mount and shallow primary cover. All takes time whilst working on the house, mate's projects, shock dyno data boxes, et cetera. This is the proposed housing:

Ark started generating interest about 2 1/2 years ago, then about this time last year they came to market..

TBH, I don't like the look of the Ark unit, I also quite like keeping my BNR clutch setup so would prefer something with the ring gear at the back of the basket instead of the front.

Daves design looks much better and nicer aesthetically (as is seemingly everything he makes), though for me I would like the ring gear again to be mounted at the back of the basket, and I understand that means cutting the crank case.

The Late John Hill was also making an electric boot but this sadly probably won't get taken any further.

Yes, would be a little less intrusive with the ring gear on the back but that is not a user installation, nor reversable without expensive cosmetic work, plus the cost of shipping. If cutting the case was an option, I would go with KTM starter parts and drive the crank directly.

Hi All,
I had not looked at the link to the shop selling the conversions until now , Expensive !!!! just shy of £3000, ($3750US)
Approximately 50% of the price of an A65 I would think ?? How much would it add to the bikes value?

I do not own an A65 but have an A10 Super Rocket which I fitted a McFarlane electric starter two years ago, the reason being my kickstart knee joint had to be replaced. I weighed up the costs vs buying another "classic" with inbuilt electric starter but
came to the answer that I really like my SR and wanted to continue using it. At approx half the price of the A65 kit above it seems
good value !

What is the issue you see with the belt primary Nick?

Never much cared for belt drives, seen too many broken over the years.
Plus i like to let the motor breath into the primary area.

BTW i payed about 3k AUD for my 72 t'bolt. 1/2 the price of that starter kit.

It would be like adding an in-ground swimming pool to a house. Costs $60,000, and adds nothing to the value of the house, because the next buyer is very likely to see a swimming pool as a high-maintenance liability.

And yet people add swimming pools to their houses every day. Because they want one!

Same with an A65 electric start ...

Have to check. A65 basket is dished on the back, Triumph is not.
