Floyd was a true inspiration. A motorcyclist (IMO). Rode well into his 80s. Run in with a dog made him give it up. He lived at home by himself.....he'd lost his love/wife (Lynn) to cancer. His house was kind of a shrine to her......pretty sweet, love like that. He was a long distance rider, one of those who doesn't get into the zone until after 100 miles or better. There was this one trip (he was short in stature) where he dropped an adventure bike (BMW?) up in Alaska because he had to panic brake for a moose. I'm pretty sure he was close to 80 on that trip. He ended up on a Harley which is full circle because he had shared photos of him in his younger days on a Harley.
He drifted away from this site because I "think" he felt odd not actually riding a Brit Bike? He did own one.....an older smaller BSA (somebody help me here C11?) he called her Leaking L......(something?). There was a time he was a regular poster. He sold me my sidecar and I visited with him when I picked it up. We were at several events together over the years.....he was a good man.
I'm going to miss the ole man.....he was a natural

Thank you Morgan. Yes “Leaking Lena”. He showed me that bike when I was at his place. It was actually a really nice example…..musta been out of oil…. I didn’t see any leaks. Typical BSA.
We kept up on Facebook and I interacted with him almost daily. He was sharp as a tack right up to the point where he was moved into a care facility. He didn’t last long in there and his friends witnessed his decline. I’m grateful he didn’t drag it out and his family says he passed peacefully.
If there is a heaven…..he’s up there and back in his beloved Lynn’s arms.
Wonder if Barb’s got some moonshine up there? ( help me out richrd)

I’m sorry to hear this. I never got to meet him in person but liked his posts, he was a longrider and a Threemustgetbeers I believe, (always wondered how that came about but never asked). I missed the posts and wondered about it when he quit posting here. I knew about Barbs’ passing. That was sad too, but I did do some parts swapping and talked with her a few time. She was a longrider with good tales also. If I ever get to meetup with Richrd in person somewhere I’ll buy him 3 beers! Gods Speed Floyd, wish I could have met you…
Nothing ticks you off more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong!

Bless you Tim…..I was beginning to wonder if anybody else remembered him.
Back in 2010 (?) Barb rode a clapped out Beamer from Washington State to North Carolina (and back) for the Three State Ride. Somewhere along her route she picked up Floyd and richrd and they rode with her the rest of the trip…. I think that’s where the “Threemustgetbeers” came about. Bless you for remembering that….I forgot it.
All three of them were long distance riders……my kinda motorcyclist.

I well remember my first taste of 'shine. It was Barb who without a word quietly slid a jar of clear liquid across the table towards me, I needed no telling what it was! Floyd spent time with us during those memorable days. Told us some of his life, of his wife, that he could not stay home now she was gone, he just wanted to keep on riding and he was planning an Alaska trip, glad he made it.

He knows not where he's going, For the ocean will decide, Its not the destination, It's the glory of the ride
I remember Floyd quite well. He rode up to the One State Ride for the second one I think. I enjoyed his company the few time we met up, and I well remember hoisting a few with him ay the TSMR. I've often wondered where he got off to. Ride on in peace Floyd.

Just visited my parents last weekend. They're both in their early 80's. Bit slower, but in good health. My dad walks 1-2 miles every day with his dog up a quiet gravel road near his house. He does this without fail rain/snow/shine or temps. His personal best this winter past was -17F. The dog had icicles on his muzzle by the time they were done.
Everything I've seen says that as long as your health can take do NOT stop moving. Kind of like our old brit bikes. They're happiest when they're ridden.
My dad is down to two close friends at his age. Everyone else is gone. Looking at that photo of Richrd, Floyd, Barb and Wes, it reminds of the Bruce Springsteen song "Last Man Standing". He's the last one left from his original four piece band The Castilles when he was still in high school.
The days are long and life is short.

"Keep moving. Don't sit still. The rocking chair will kill you." i will never forget that.
