Hey Kev, sorry for your news, welcome to 'the club' that no-one wants to be in! - Motor Neurone Disease (als) here!
I potentially have 2 - 3 years before lights out, depending upon progression.
What was really depressing is knowing that a while ago now, I have already had my last ever motorcycle ride. Ah well.
Stay focussed on 'today' mate, the rest is irrelevant.
If you ever want an ear, just shout up.
Cheers

Kev,
Tough news for sure!
As Tridentman said, words and philosophy always seem inadequate at these times.
However, I'd still like to offer these few lines taken from the essay Success by Bessie Anderson Stanley:

"To laugh often and much, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others
and to leave the world a little better place than you found it,
whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition,
to know even one life breathed easier because you lived.
This is to have succeeded."

We never met, but from your many posts over the years I can detect a lot of Kev in Ms Stanley's words...

Godspeed and all my best compadre,
Phil

I'm sorry I did not get the chance to meet you, I have enjoyed your presence on the forum. I hope you are able to be comfortable and enjoy all that you can see hear and smell. Don't leave anyone guessing what you think of them.

Sorry that it has come to this Kevin, always hoped you would last longer than myself.
Bikes and boats and trains and planes and all the swaps I could only hope to visit.
I always looked forward to your tales. You will be remembered for a long time.

Enjoy all that is left, as I would wish to everyone regardless of their age or present condition.

I was waiting for Tom to say something………it’s been on my mind all day.

Kev is in the hospital.

Those of you that pray…….might be time for some.

I just hope he’s comfortable and pain free.

Prayers for Kevin. It was nearly a year ago in May that I faced my life flash before me. When the family dropped me off at intensive care they were given the news that I might not make it through the night. That was before the prayers of Britbike members had been tallied. In my case it helped me have the strength to carry on when the Doctors struggled to find an answer. The members prayers, and kind thoughts, bolstered my Soul. It wasn't just the medicine or nursing that made the difference. I want to thank the members who took the time to share their thoughts and prayers with me and my family. I hope Kevin will have a similar positive out come.
Prayers for Kevin!

My thoughts are with you, Kev.
I hope very much that you get through this and come out smiling on the other side.
If however this is the end then I hope that it is quiet and painless.

Thanks for all your contributions here, Kev, and they’re numerous. I hope when it’s time, that you get to die with dignity and grace. About all I can hope to ask for when it’s my turn.

Not to take too much of a side-track, but thanks to those of you here who have had similar thoughts/circumstances to Kev. Your candor and courage makes difficult conversations with loved ones a bit easier (speaking for myself here).

All the best to you on the next chapter,

Steve

Gordon has notified us that you are in hospital now; if you are still able to read these messages, I hope you are comforted by all the expressions of friendship and care from bb.com members. I hardly know you personally, apart from a few discussions here, but I'd like to encourage you by mentioning that there is nothing to be lost in thinking of God, and speaking to Him in your own way, about what WILL come next for all of us. In God there is only love, peace, joy, hope, care and goodness, eternally. There is indeed judgement, but the end result of negative judgement is forgiveness and peace. I get the feeling there will be far more positive judgement and reward. All of this is free, and no one is rejected who opens their heart. Whatever time you have left, we all hope it is fulfilling, redeeming, and peaceful.

Godspeed.
Paul Z.

It’s a trade secret (safety reasons)…I’m actually not supposed to have them but over the years I’ve collected a few.

There’s at least 3 of us on here that know what they are.

It’s funny and I hope I still get a chance to sit around a camp fire and talk with Kev about it…..In pretty much EVERY movie where the hero is trapped in an elevator……there’s ALWAYS a door/hatch in the top of the car that the hero escapes through. Ever looked up to see if there’s a hatch?

I ALWAYS look, and there is NEVER a "hatch".

I'm just hoping for the day that I get to climb thru one...
