Spent some time this weekend working on the seat/ tail section mockup base around the stock A50/65 seat pan.....got it pretty much how I want it, now to transfer the construction paper templates to some 20ga steel sheet. The rear most section will taper in some more and probably will pull it forward some as right now its even with the rear tire. Still debating if the rear should be closed off or remain open.

For comparison, here is a photo of my first tail section on my APS-PG that I ran at the BUB speed trials (BMST now). They consider this streamlining so had to run in that APS class. Loring and SCTA allow more streamlining in back to remain in open bike M class, but not AMA - BMST. We were able to form this from a single sheet of 22 gauge (I think) steel.

Also, beware of the rules for MPS rear "there shall be no streamlining to rear of a line drawn vertically through the axle of the rear wheel, and the wheel must be visible for 180 degrees of its circumference to the rear of such a line."

P.S. The designation on the tailpiece had to be changed to APS-PG.

Tom,

I will need to dig a bit farther before finalizing the design and will send Joe Daly a quick email with a photo to verify but if needed I can notch similar to what you have done. Your Altered bike looks great, thats got to be a blast to run.

Spoke with Joe this morning on this and after his confirmation, I will be cutting a notch into the tail section similar to what what you have on your APS bike, thanks for commenting on the rule! Good thing this is only a cardboard template mockup and not metal so adjustments can be made. Hoping to have this tail section worked out in steel and mounted to the chassis over the next week so I can get the bike torn down and parts cleaned and prepped for finishes.

Just for clarification, the APS tailpiece only needed to be cut out behind that vertical line thru the rear axle at BMST until 2014 (I think) when they decided to allow full partial streamlining as did Loring and SCTA in APS class. But still required in M and MPS at Loring and SCTA. At BMST you still cannot use any streamlining behind the rider in M open class, but allowed in MPS. Which is a shame because it puts the BMST riders at a disadvantage as far as M class national records are concerned.

Spent some time before Christmas and fabricated the seat/ tail section out of sheet metal as well as fabricating some aluminum plates to push the pegs back for a more lay down setup (6 1/2" forward of the rear axle so still within rules). Got the bike fully disassembled and ready for painting and machine work too, hopefully over the next two months everything will be ready for final assembly.

Sent out the engine covers, lower fork legs, triple trees and foot peg mounts to powder coat today. Also have the Katana wheels out for truing and my machinist is working his magic on the rotating assembly. Still need to find someone to work the cylinder head though.

Chris, I would think Ed Valiket would be the best choice to work magic on the cylinder head.

Agreed, I sourced the piston for this A50 build build from him. Spoke with him yesterday via email, he has no problem working on this cylinder head, just waiting on the oversized A50 Black Diamond Intake valves to come back in stock (KPMI's manufacturer is behind on these frown )

Starting to make some progress, got all of the black bits back from powder coating along with the wheels with heavy gold flake, amazing sparkle in the sunlight. Plan is to hopefully have the roller together this weekend.

I'm thinking I should have gone with the 22x4x17 front runners over the 22x2.5x17 version but they did fill out pretty well to the bead lip. They weigh in at 13.5lbs (at least the front one with no sprocket or brake disc). My middle daughter has taking a liking to this bike so she has chosen the colors and hopefully she will ride it when she's of age. The tank and body work will be something similar to the Norton Fire Flake Purple color.

Im still waiting on the OS valves as well so I can send the head out. I guess if I really have to I can get the standard non black diamond valves and changed out at a later date but not fully sure if this is the route I really want to go..

the goodyear tech in nevada told me that the 2.5 x 17 tires were fine on 3.00 rims. trying to find 2.5-inch wheels is difficult.

chris, how did you end up adapting the axles from the wheels to the frame?

Kevin, it didnt take much to get the 2.5 tires bead to pop on. What do you think a good PSI for these are? right now I have them at 45lbs. The front wheel, I actually lucked out and the axle for the Can Am forks was a perfect fit. For the rear, I used a stock Katana front axle bolt and made some spacers to suite, two of them I milled flat so they would fit into the "square" opening in the stock BSA swing arm, similar to the stock setup BSA uses on the A65 quick detach rear wheel (dont have any photos but can take some when I get the assembly underway)

Got the roller together this morning. Just need the wether to stay warm now so I can paint the tank and seat/ tail section. Motor should hopefully be back from the machine shop in a couple of weeks.
