Greetings, I am trying to identify a Royal Enfield twin we have. Identification help for such bikes is woefully lacking in comparison to Triumph & BSA, but we would sure like to know definitively what model we have here. Thank you in advance for your replies! The bike in question has frame stamped “70462” and the engine is stamped “YB 16378”.

Congrats on your first Enfield. They are unique machines and well worth the effort to enjoy.
Judging from the numbers you supplied, I would suggest your Enfield twin is a 750cc Mk1 Interceptor produced approximately 1964-ish.
The best thing for you to do is reach out to the REOC dating officer (Mr.Graham Scarth ) and forward not only your motor number and frame number, but also the gearbox number. He has access to the original factory record books and should be able to give you specific info for your machine.
You will find the gearbox number stamped on top of the gearbox and should be a combination of letters and numbers.Example: AGZ1234
If original to the machine that SAME number will be stamped on the right front of the crankcase.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.
According to an old photocopied list I have, your engine number is in the 1965 year range so it should be a 736cc Interceptor twin, probably with two carburetors and magneto fired. Sorry but I don't have any frame number info.
They are a nice bike when sorted.

You might be interested to know that the Series 1 Interceptor one of which you now have, was the fastest production motorcycle in the world back in it's time.
