Cold but not near the records here in Virginia. Just gotta be careful about spending time outside in the wind.

Electricity stayed on here despite the wind. It would have been a busy night stoking fires if it hadn't!

Temperature in Chicago area was -5 degrees F. yesterday (Friday) at 5:00 AM.
Snow accumulation about 3 inches, but wild winds caused icy roads and drifting.

Usual TV weather hysteria. "Worst storm in a generation!" stuff.

This makes the fourth "worst storm in a generation" I have lived through.
We get one of them about every ten years here.

The winters of 1977 and 1978 were the worst two I can remember. This one doesn't meet that standard.

It may be bad in some regions, but here in Central New York state, not that bad. The wind is howling, which makes me nervous - don't want to have trees down or power failures, but OK so far. Only an inch and a half of snow.
Yesterday the temperature was 37 and by evening was 4 (Fahrenheit).(about 3 to -15 Celsius).

Survived here. Maybe an inch of snow, some wind, but after this summer’s storm, this was a light breeze laughing

Temperature dropped from 40F to 0F from about 2 AM to 6 AM. Then went down to about -8F, stayed there until early this morning. It is now -1F.

Wood burner has been running non-stop, electric stayed on, no issues with the gas well, life is good.

Lots of wind, 4F, still had power. One pipe froze, got it thawed. An hour and a half west Buffalo NY has two feet of snow and it's still coming down. Wind clocked at 79 mph in their area. Thruway is still closed west of Rochester NY

Anyone relying on a heat pump as the only source of domestic heating?

UK media are confusing real temperature with windchill temperature.

All of the Heat Pumps that I installed over 20+ years all had backup electric resistance heat kits as "stage 2" t-stat settings.

We had a heck of a lot of rain for a couple days- heavier than usual rainfall amounts, with a little snow to begin with- like enough that I actually got the shovel out to
clear it before the freeze. Roadways and the drive & walks dried right up and all water evaporated off OK.
Temps yesterday mid morning around 37-38 F falling to 4 degrees F by midnight- bigger than usual winds, sustained wind speeds anywhere between about 15-30 mph with big gusts periodically.
Power stayed on (so far) so no worries.

Merry Xmas
Happy Holidays
Wishing the very best of the Holiday Season for everybody worldwide.

I have wood heat but had a new complete HVAC system installed over the summer so I'm running "it only" just to see how it does. Doesn't get much rest but doesn't have a problem keeping the house at 68 degrees.

BUT.......I have plenty of fire wood so I might let the Heat Pump rest the next couple of days.

4 degrees here this morning and with wind chill has it down to -15 or so. North Carolina USA

We're OK here Bryan except water froze up in the trailer. Went to 0 dF Friday morning and I forgot to let it drip. Reached double digits F. now. It might thaw out by Tuesday. Supposed to be in the 50s by Thursday

8F Bryan. Had to go to middle Georgia to play Santa today. Brine Salt is everywhere. Frozen pipes at a friends house and a couple of shingles broken off his roof. Turned off the well pump and the electric water heater at the fuse box. Hope he makes it home from the hospital.

We dripped the faucets last night and will again tonight.

Certainly cold here in NYC and the lower Hudson Valley (currently a real feel of 0) but like others have said thankfully the electricity has stayed on and the steam heat is pumping. I remember colder winters and more snow in the late 90s, the coldest winter I ever experienced was whilst working on a harbor tug in 2015. That was the first time I saw NY Harbor completely frozen over, we had to break ice just to move barges and get to assist jobs. Wish I took more pictures!

Thank you all for checking in thumbsup
From personal experience I am fully aware how newspapers & TV hype up a story with selective sound bites and video.
Whatever the weather the man in the red suit driving the 9 in hand sleigh got to most every where with his sack of goodies. Hope you all got what you wanted, within reason of course.
Have a great day beerchug

Unwellness (again) means I can't easily write/post stuff so I been putting 'likes' to other folks posts.
Except I cannot put a 'like' to this one, made me shudder reading it.
