Sounds like a great opportunity for someone to get a "twofer"!

So, do you not have a title? I am unfamiliar with a "bonded" title. A bonded title is a state-issued title that has a certain time limitation (for potential previous owner or lienholder to make a claim) after which it converts to a standard title. The bond will pay out a certain amount if a legit claim surfaces within the bond period, I believe; it may vary from state to state.

i am very familiar with bonded title experience in NC you get the 'bond' from insurance company for a couple hundred bucks the bond means that if anyone comes around saying bike was swiped you are protected the bond is good for a couple of years in the meantime the NC Highway Patrol License and Theft folks will pay you a visit or you take bike to them (it must be completely assembled but need not be running) and they will run serial number through database the database goes back a long way my1972 norton frame showed bike stolen in 1974 but recovered and cleared same year.....overall to get bonded title is around $300 and a ,lot of trouble not to mention sweating it out while numbers get run through database..........i have been down this route twice and will never ever do it again...it is a crap shoot to the max PS if it shows stolen and not cleared they can seize bike on the spot

Definitely the worst for impounding bikes. I still wonder what the payout value is, on the state boded titles? Is it the Bill Of Sale value, Declared (by you) value based on your cost as assembled, a state-determined nominal value, or some other number?

As I understand it, all of this nonsense was a kneejerk reaction to an incident years ago when one of their own was cutting titles for their buddies who were building kit cars and wanted them titled as originals... allegedly.
