Hi Kevin--- yes-- they are 71 on or 69/70 beauty kit side covers.
When I bought my 69 it was local, it was running well-- but it had been "updated" to a 71 spec.
But it was numbers matching 69.
I wanted to refurbish it to true 69 spec.
I happened to be talking to a friend in central NJ and mentioned this.
He said" You might be interested in what I have".
Turned out that when a local to him small dealer put on a beauty kit to sell the bike he had put the gas tank, side covers and rayguns on a shelf at the back of the shop.
My friend had bought the items when the shop closed down.
My friend said" You can buy them from me if you want"
"Great" I said "how much do you want for the tank, covers and Rayguns?"
He replied " You have done me some good deals and we are friends--- give me what I paid the dealer--- $60 for the lot.".
Never in the field of motorcycle deals has my hand moved to my wallet so fast!
That was a good deal.
However it then took me 18 months to find front and rear fenders in good condition--- and they cost me $875!
Came from Chicago--- a guy had bought a 69 new in 69 then two years later decided to make it into a cafe racer and the original fenders were stuck in the back of his garage.
Only came to light many years later when the guy passed away and his son was clearing out his late fathers garage.
So I completed the refurb-- and as a footnote it won the Best Trident award at the Triumph National Rally a couple of years ago.

The side covers and tank strip come up from time to time so dont let that put you off.
Mechanically the only significant difference between the early and later triples is that the early motors had bleeds off the main bearings to the cams.
The problem of cam wear was later solved by nitriding the cams (as on the twins).
There is a service bulletin recommending blanking off the oil feed at the main bearing as this robs some oil flow to the big ends.
But to do that involves a complete strip down of the motor of course.

I believe Clive Scarfe in the UK is making tank trim and perf airbox in stainless so that should half your missing parts. He advertises in Triple Echo.

Tridentman man has expressed interest ,although I believe cost to fly out and ship it would exceed value. I am willing to take it to any San Diego motorcycle shop to have inspected. Also,got your Craigslist email KC. figured a single response easier.

The listing on Craigslist was up for so long it expired. It is still available. COME CHECK IT OUT!!

I discussed the possible purchase of this bike with Kevin-- who supplied me with detailed photos.
Due to an unfortunate experience many years ago, I do not buy a bike without first seeing it and examining it in the flash.
I was prepared to buy the bike and made Kevin an offer.
However I had to factor in a flight from NJ to CA, transport for the bike back from CA to NJ, a hotel for a night and a rental car.
The resulting offer for the bike was too low for Kevin to accept it.
Had I lived in San Diego I have no doubt that the bike by now would have been sitting in my shop.
It is an interesting early bike--- before the month/year coding was introduced.

I would have been all over this bike, back in the day, when I purchased the other Trident from you!!! This style of Trident is my favorite! Your price is killer, and I have been holding back, but just had to say, that if you don't sell it soon, I will probably shoot you a buying plan, like I did with the last one.

Not exactly sure yet. I had to sell a motorcycle the last time, which would probably be my course of action this time but may have other avenues. Not set yet.

I would guess it will still be here! After all I had a member message me to say it was worthless!

That's not very nice. I would "name and shame" them.

I'm not a triple guy and not out west ... but I'm very surprised someone hasn't got this bike yet. Maybe I'm just getting easy to surprise in my old age ....

I already own a 1973 T150V survivor and this 1969 is tempting to me, and I'm only a few hours away. I suppose for some it's the uncertain economic times. I know that's part of it for me but space to keep it and the time and energy it will need to get it going is the real problem, and I'm a total sucker for projects.

Someone will come along sooner or later. It's best not to be in a hurry.

Yes-- I was very tempted too-- and gave way to temptation.
However for me the distance east coast/west coast killed the deal for me.
The cost of travel, overnight accommodation and the cost of getting the bike back to Joooooiosey was too much for the deal to stand.
And-- Stuart--- the 69s are quite a lot different from the 5 speeders.--- maybe worth a go?

One of my young co-workers is interested in Triumphs but this would be throwing him in the deep end for sure. Unfortunate, considering the heady riding experience that triples deliver, but the added complexity and the somewhat fickle reputation seems to keep buyers cautious hands in their pockets.

Yes-- compared with the much larger numbers and more general interest in the Triumph twins-- the triples are much more of a niche interest.
And I would agree--- not a restoration into which to throw a novice.
I also agree about storage of bikes-- one of my biggest problems---- I used to think that I had an elastic garage but I am now up to my limit!

This whole deal is quite surprising to me... especially a member telling you it's worthless. Kevin, you know your stuff well enough to laugh that crap off!

Do you know Blake Conway (the painter) up in Vista? I haven't talked with him in several years, but I'd think he'd be interested in this. He's restored at least one same vintage previously... you might try contacting him.
