I think the 73s had the 4 bolt tappet inspection cover. The 74s had the 6 bolt tappet inspection cover.

If you feel you need some of the '71/'72 rocker boxes with the tappet adjusting inspection holes, I have at least 2 sets all refurbished - I sort of collected them for a while! Might take you up on that, not sure if I have any. No surprise if I do though, I have more stuff than I have braincells! SR

I was on about the ‘71/‘72 which have screw-in tappet covers and small screw-in inspection plugs in the sides.

Was the squish band due to clever design, or simply to enable the use of the head that had been made for 71mm barrels? I suspect the latter, though as with so many Brit bike mods when they made engines even larger, it actually worked.
If anything other than a blank space is visible here, something's wrong.

Wow SR! If you're just showing off you're doing a fine job of it. Very nice bikes.

Hi, All the 7 fin short rod 750s had 10 bolt heads including the 724cc cylinder early production.
No long rod 650 with 8 fin cyl had 10 bolt head even though the casting had the boss for 10 bolts. Only front center was drilled.
The case casting & primary cover for 3 row chain is different than 2 row chain casting.
It’s my understand the 650 didn’t get a 3 row chain in 73 from start of production. The 3 row 650 came later. This was kicked around on RAT with a few original owners. Personally I feel the 650 vibrates less.
The 650 was brought back in last years ‘81&82. But it had shortened stroke TR7RV 750 motor, 7 fin cly & 10 bolt head. TR65 Thunderbird. Never sold in USA. Owners tend to say they have less vibration. Don

Hi, I don't know when Triumph went to 6 bolt valve covers. My April 1973 build month Tiger 750 has 6 bolt valve covers.
My friend had late '72 Tiger 650. Low frame, push in exhaust, 4 bolt valve covers. Longer front brake arms. This was a really good trouble free bike. Don
