About 10 years ago I replaced the lead acid
battery in my cherry 78 T140v due to it leaking acid and the resulting damage to the chrome on the rear fender. Like Kurt, said above, AGM is my preferred
battery so one went in at that time. Last month I noticed a single drop of acid on the floor under the bike. Inspection revealed a cracked
battery case. Possibly caused by my religious use of a
battery tender. No damage to the fender as 99% of the acid stayed in the AGM
battery. Happy days!
PS it was quite a large crack, split the outside cell top to bottom!
