Hi All - new to the 500’s, hopefully picking up a basket case ‘72 Daytona today. I have some late 60’s 650 parts laying around so hoping I can make use of some bits I have on hand, wondering what parts are shared between them like seat? Forks? Foot pegs? Chainguard? Front / Rear wheel ? Etc.

Forks: Yes pre 71, but the springs are probably softer on the 500.
Wheels are the same, pre-71.
Chainguard yes.
Front fender yes. (not that you asked...)
Rear fender; sort of but the Daytona 72 one is shorter and actually nearly identical to the 71/72 OIF item, except that the 500 has an indent for the oil tank.
Foot pegs are totally different, and can't be modified.
Seat yes, pre 71.
There are lots of bits that are common, but have a look at the parts books: www.classicbike.biz

No, not the same. The 500 has a short piece bolted in front of the chainguard. Basically, a two-piece setup. The 650 chainguard will bolt up at the rear but questionable at the front.

Having had both 650s and 500s, the list is correct if you go for parts from 1968 to 70 for the 650, 1968 to 72 for the 500:
Here is what is interchangeable:

Forks, complete.
oil tank
tool box-side cover
front fender and all braces, rear fender (shorter) and some braces, 1971-72
front and rear wheels and brakes, complete.
spedo, tach, and mount. ("Black-faced" gauges 1970 on)
battery carrier and it's mounts.
headlight, tail light (500 MOUNTS for head and tail light changed in 1971)
kick stand
chainguard is same as used on 1957-62 pre-unit 650
