I think instead of going down strange rabbit holes.......I'll start posting some favorite photos from the past instead......that should take a couple of months.

Alan ( a founding member of the TSMR) Mr Ben (RIP) and David ( The Anna Mott guy)

Short story about Alan.......he and I worked together making the ride happen. He was the first ride leader. Alan's a GOOD rider and there were a few people that will remain un-named that would push Alan. Got to the point where they were going so fast the ride leader only had 4-5 riders with him and the rest were left on their own. The "straw" was when I came up on John French pulled over on the side of the road.......he was fuming....I've never seen him so mad. John's no slouch when it comes to riding a motorcycle.......but he was upset at how fast the front of the ride was going (on Hwy 58). So mad that he never came back......I had to do something about that and had a talk with Alan. That conversation didn't end well and Alan quit the ride altogether . You see this going too fast thing has a history for me some don't know about. The next year we tried splitting up into two groups with at least two ride leaders.......and it seemed to solve the problem.....at least for awhile.

You guys please join in and share.......no particular order needed.

As long as the chase truck was still behind me, I never cared how fast that I or anyone else was going. I rode the 48-MPH M21, and I rode my 95 HP Guzzi Centauro and hung with the front group once, and I didn't see any reason for getting mad. We naturally sorted ourselves out into who's-riding-with-who based on what was comfortable that day, or how squirrelly you felt.

The only thing that gave the ride organizers real heartburn is when folks would decide to leave the group ride in the middle of the ride, and go do their own thing up some interesting looking road. And then everyone is spending time and effort looking for them, or going back to see if they're in a ravine, or something. But that's been pretty much sorted these days ....

Lannis......I'm not sure what triggered John. He was mad, I was trying to make sure that didn't happen again. I ended up losing both of them.
I really enjoyed them BOTH being around. Alan and I spent a lot of quality time together because of the ride. How could you NOT like John being around "It'll rearrange your molecules" I'm not sure John knew the route by heart. Pretty sure we had route sheets back then but they are pretty useless....if you don't keep up with them from the start. Start out just following and it might be hard to pick up where in the world you are. I suffer that at Mike's OSMR. Been there several times......recognize a lot of the same roads. But I'd not be able to make it back to the motel without a map. So I have to try my best to keep up.

LOT'S of water's passed under that bridge...........just like this one. Anybody wanta tell me where this is?........I've got two hints.....but only one for now. It was always on your right......until it wasn't.

Lannis made a guess......."Looks like the stream from the trout pond at Banner Elk."

Nope......that steam is typically on your left. There was that backwards ride .....but I think we were having to skip the Goat Path back then.

You've ridden RIGHT by this one on pretty much every ride......

Gordon

Lannis.....I hadn't looked at this photo in a long time. Those must be two locals over to the left.....they sure aren't any of the riders....I have that group photo. That one's an oldie.

Nope

When your on a bike…..on the loop. You are about 20’ or so to the left of where I’m standing taking this photo. I’m pretty sure we’ve passed it on every ride since the beginning…….even Windy’s new Lansing Loop.

I’ll give it another day or two……then drop a hint that will surely solve the mystery.

Gordon

Looks like something along Shulls Mill road, but that was never part of the route.

Shulls Mill Road is hoot. I like going down it better than up. I used to ride that road at least once a day 5 days a week. But you’re right….. it was never part of the ride. I always though it was too dangerous.

The photo is of a place you see just like the photo but you’re about 20’ to the left on hardtop.

Been part of the ride since the first ride up there.

Sorry……that would make it too easy.

I could just say one thing and you’d know exactly where it is. There’s a reason you haven’t paid attention to it…..( it is a beautiful spot…mountain laurel bloom that time of year) but for now that’s all I’ll say……except, there’s a reason I’m standing there too.

Think about it. It’s always been there…..we’ve always ridden by it.

WHY would you not see it?

Because you were……………

WHY was I standing there when I took the photo?

Because I was……….

That’s all you’re gona get until tomorrow.

Gordon…..no I’m not a robot!!!!

OK then...this makes me think it might be at a point where we get on the dreaded Blue Ridge parkway?

Or on the way to Greyson Highlands ? I recall a few group pictures up there..

Remember I said that Windy’s new Lansing Loop takes you right by it too. ( and he doesn’t do the dreaded Parkway)

But BLESS you for playing along. You get another clue. NC
