Std cup and cone bearings in the '69 650 have developed a nothy spot, I have some tapered rollers here somewhere.
Does fitting tapered rollers increase the distance between top and bottom yokes [triple trees] ?
I would like to know if I will need some sort of spacers above or below the headlight brackets before I begin the job.

Yes, tiger the fitment of taper roller bearing kits to a Triumph changes the distance between the top and bottom yokes. It will present itself at the top of the headlamp ears, as the bottom is fixed. typically a thick "O" ring will fill the gap. Most bike I see fitted with tapered steering neck bearings the owner ignored the gap and it is left as is.

I have tapered roller bearings in the steering head of my ’69 Bonneville and the gaps on the headlight ears are almost invisible. I have to admit that I just found bearings that would fit and did not use one of the kits (no such thing was available back then). I looked though my notes and found the following numbers: L44649 for the cones and L44610 for the cups. Sometimes the numbers of old bearings disappear from the parts books but if you are lucky these numbers will still be in the system somewhere. I don’t know if they will be useful to compare to the bearings that you have.

Thanks guys, I have box of "O" rings and I will also speak to my bearing supplier today, I buy at good prices for most bearings.
