https://nortonrally.com/ 11 thru 15 July busy, busy , busy prepping for the rally. As of yesterday the $10 discount rally fee is over and will be $75 now + lodging or camping fee. I'll be doing tech sessions. morning, lunch break, then afternoon session for all 5 days 11-15 July. If any one has questions for discussion topics please PM or email me. Subject will be all NHT model 7 through Commando electric start. Prep maintenance on my combat. side stand mount repair/replacement, centerstand bushing upgrade to 06-4057, 850 style. I'm going to try a SS exhaust after 30+ years on my Armour roadster stainless system. This is the bike hanging on my engine hoist I was in the middle of drilling the cradle for the 850 type centerstand bushings. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.britbike.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/download/Number/16425/filename/DSCF0040.JPG) Shown is the flip and invert between the engine hoist and the Kubota forks ![[Linked Image]](https://www.britbike.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/download/Number/16426/filename/DSCF0043.JPG) Now flipped and reattached, inverted position for broken side stand mount removal and replacement. The engine hoist lets me roll it into the shop for TIG welding. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.britbike.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/download/Number/16427/filename/DSCF0044.JPG)

![[Linked Image]](https://www.britbike.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/download/Number/16465/filename/23-06-2022assy.jpg) Good and productive day. 1. side stand mount repair accomplished and done. WESTLY bleach white then ARMORALL the tires. 2. install SS exhaust mounts. 3.clean polish rear wheel cover. 4.Smack down speedo drive on press to remove any "bowing" (don't want any drag on buffed cover.) 5. Fill/flood speedo with 70W synthetic gear lube 5. Mount wheel into drum typical cush drive rubber needed a few attempts (3 Molson ICE not helping) 7. Install my custom top gearbox oversize bolt. 13/16 socket 8. Connect chain and saftey wire the master link and clip 9. run speedo drive cable so it routes with the "flow" 10 beer break and computer hack... 11. Sun going down, will resume 4-5 AM in the morning. Would like to have it running by end of day tomorrow 24 June will report any impediments.... After all it ran fine when parked, carbs will of course need cleaning....(E10)

"Lots" of little jobs to clean up. It did start on the first kick. Lots of smoke from the diesel I soaked the bores with. 40+ psi oil on the gauge.Left carb still needs work as it is not responding to the screwdriver tweeks. Smoke has cleared but the carb will come off for a rework. Put the center stand on. A bit of a "PULL" to engage the center stand spring. Works fine,,,first time for center stand since 1987.Last time on road was 2019. Iron out the remaining wrinkles and go for an inspection sticker. No one going to the NY/INOA rally 11July? Is no one curious for tech talk? Give me topics & questions for rally tech talk, PM or email me garden gate ? feartherbed ? Commando ? 500-600-650-750-850?

Hey Dave, How does the muffler mount on the SS version…any mods to the frame needed? Not able to make the rally this year but you should go over the clutch and what effects on the Atlas arm installed instead of Commando arm… I was amazed at the difference. Just for us old folks with Arthritis Rod

Finally got it running and it was just way out idle and mix screws on both carbs Rod Same 2 bobbin diamond shape plate to muffler. Strap from shock mount stud drops down to back of top bobbin and continues to bottom bobbin, Second strap also attaches on bottom bobbin and goes forward to top rear Z plate bolt. Easy and all you need is the pair of pipes. Heat shields also highly recommended. Can't remember if I have the Commando or atlas release cam in this combat gearbox, but is is an easy 2 finger clutch. I did drag race it many years ago @ New England Dragway. Not all that impressive with a 21t sprocket and I weighed 35 lbs more back then. Time for the 1/4 was not great but I'd come in just under 100mph in third. If I tried to shift to 4th (almost at the line) ET went up and MPH went down...

Loading up the trailer with technical tidbits of mostly my own interest as the reply's have been "crickets". A few instruments and equipment that most have never seen or know what they do are loaded for demonstration if desired. Yet I use them often on norton or Lucas work. My bike is running, just OK, though it starts mostly first kick and sounds like a B29 bomber on light cruise. I do enjoy riding it. I will be swapping out several sets of plugs to see how they respond. Including what i thought were high tech Bosch plugs that on their website show as obsolete. As a final, I will bring a set of Champion N7Y and see what they show? The plan is to roll out by noon. I should be there Sunday afternoon / early evening, and will have coffee available Monday morning by 6. I won't be back here until next Saturday at the earliest.
