I have a 1953 VB Ariel and have just replaced the fork leg oil seals.

My manual states that "the correct oil level is 17-18 inches below the top face of the top bracket, with the motorcycle unloaded in an upright position".

I have followed the instructions and this puts the oil level at just below where the fork seal fits.

Is this correct? I'm worried that I may have too much oil in the fork leg and possibly cause the seal to blow and leak oil.

That sounds like way too much oil.

Ariel forks are similar to BSA forks. Maybe the BSA guys can be of help.
