As all Y'all know I just came back from the John Bull Rally over there in Belgium, what all y'all didn't know was, the A10 developed a bit of an oil leak.... And that's after me doing the piston rings too, bloody thing was spitting oil out over the Magneto, it looked like it was coming from the bottom of the rocker box, and ALL A10 owners KNOW what fun that is.... I girded me loins and minced out into the fettling shed, the fettling irons were warm and so was I, off with the rocker box, AND the cylinder head. Annealed all the Gaskets, for they are all copper now, and then it was THAT time, the time we all hate, putting the rocker box back on..... I left it till I was good and rested, didn't want to chuck the thing up the wall in temper, or indeed use all them naughty words that the docker's use, so there I was standing next to the job in hand. Only THIS time I did something different, and bugger me the rocker box went straight on, all the pushrods went into their cups, and all is well.... And ifn y'all want to know what I did that was different to achieve this state of happiness, y'll will have to buy me a beer. Well its taken me almost 30yrs to find the secret so I'm not giving it away without a beer.... Simply HAD to tell someone though, so that's you lot, haven't tested the engine yet so I don't know if I've sorted the leak, just so darn happy that I now know how to get the rocker box on without a fight.... And to top it all, I now also know how to start Cochise without standing next to a defibrillator, wonder how long this state of affairs will last.....

I will gladly pay a pint of best British bitter to learn that trick. I never had much joy with the pushrod comb---it really messed up any sealant that you had on the rocker box gaskets. My "best" way was to stand astride the bike facing backwards and then while lowering the rockerbox with my left hand I put the fingers of my right hand through the rear tappet inspection cover and moved the pushrods into the rockers using my fingers. It helps to have long fingers! HTH

I think Shaun is just looking for beer .... The A10 combs aren't the best way, but they'll work with a bit of fiddling. You can also rig up two or three rubber bands to hold them long enough to sneak up on it and slap the rocker boxes down.
I don't think there really IS some secret method that has finally been found 75 years or so after the A7/A10 rocker boxes were invented .... !!

I figured out the tricks for a triple years ago. An A10 can't be that difficult. Or can it?

Only playing with all y'all.... All I did was back off the tappet adjusters, so they were level with the rocker arms, then using the comb the rocker box went straight on....
