Hi All!

I am in the beginning stages of a teardown for a full restoration of a 1972 T120V and have noticed something peculiar with the seat latch, per the parts book and photos online, the 71/72 T120's used a clasp type latch over the previous version with the spring loaded pin type. This bike (which has been stood in a shed since 1981) is original as it gets, minus the 70's megaphones and king/ queen type seat. Question is, is there some hidden part number for the correct seat with the correct tab or maybe this was a factory oops? I have seen one other 1972 with this seat latch setup, just want to be sure so I can note if I need to fabricate a tab for the seat or not.

My 72, which is really a 72 1/2, lower seat height, has the same spring latch as you show. But my parts book shows the older style latch. Maybe the 73 parts book shows what you need.

I have printed it out.
My old page was not even close.
No good for the seat or the gas tank. And it only took me 35 years to notice.

The low seat frame was introduced from serial number CG50414 during the 1972 production 'year' which is why the later low frame seat (and plunger etc.) isn't in the '72 parts book.

The low frame seat part number is F14599 (83-4599), however, UK/General export and US version seats had covers to suit the different width fuel tanks but both had the same part number.

For the 1973 model year, the seat hinges were moved to the left-hand side with the plunger knob on the right.

If you were to order the 83-4786 seat listed in the '73 parts book it would be the left-hand hinged, right-hand catch seat, in the link, below.

Thanks LAB, this was my conclusion as well looking at various sites and photos that the the hinges swapped sides in 73 and I appriciate the 72 1/2 seat part number!
