Mucking about in my photo files this week, I came across these photos I'd kind of overlooked. Took them at last year's Triumph Rally in Oley, Pennsylvania- an event well worth a visit if you've not been. These pix were all shot on film. The color film I've shot lately has all been Kodak. Most of the color I shot, I used my lovely, gifted Prakitca LTL with its awesome Carl Zeiss Jena Pancolar 50mm lens. For any of you who dont recall the details, this camera was bought on the Black Market in Soviet era Poland in the 1970s by a British Army officer. His son kept the camera and gave it to me, unsolicited. I cannot say for certain what film this was but it has the sort of "desaturated" look of Gold 200 or perhaps it was an old expired Kodak color film someone gave me? Again, I am uncertain which camera I used but I can say for sure that almost all of the color film I shot in 2021 was thru the Practika- which renders so deliciously. Anyway, without further ado... old & new ![[Linked Image from ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com]](https://ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com/img/s/v-10/p2892182172-4.jpg) pre unit pairings ![[Linked Image from ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com]](https://ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com/img/s/v-10/p2892182318-4.jpg) ridden in ![[Linked Image from ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com]](https://ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com/img/s/v-10/p2892183444-4.jpg) bob job ![[Linked Image from ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com]](https://ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com/img/s/v-10/p2892183447-4.jpg) orange you glad I didnt say banana ![[Linked Image from ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com]](https://ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com/img/s/v-10/p2892183470-4.jpg) this sky blue is one of my fave classic Bonnie color schemes nice bike ![[Linked Image from ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com]](https://ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com/img/s/v-10/p2892183636-4.jpg) yes it's the Triumph Rally but others are welcome too ![[Linked Image from ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com]](https://ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com/img/s/v-10/p2892183709-4.jpg) colors looking a bit flat here, this pic doesnt really do this period paint true justice ![[Linked Image from ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com]](https://ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com/img/s/v-10/p2892183717-4.jpg) clean machine ![[Linked Image from ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com]](https://ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com/img/s/v-10/p2892183829-4.jpg) the usual suspects ![[Linked Image from ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com]](https://ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com/img/s/v-10/p2892183983-4.jpg) finally, one for Steve aka Jubee Prince ![[Linked Image from ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com]](https://ricochetridersmotomojo.zenfolio.com/img/s/v-10/p2892183992-4.jpg) If you're into Classic British Motorcycles (and why WOULDNT you be, if you're reading this), this Triumph National rally is amazing. SO well run and people come from all over the place. If you can do the whole weekend- or even day trip in & out like I do, it is super fantastic, well attended, and abssolutely worth your time & energy. I can't say enough about it, honestly. The organaizers do such a nice job with it all. Cheers. Tom

Hi Ricochet; really liked this set of photos regarding tone palette and texture mostly on the engines. It seem that you used a flash?

Hi Reverb and thanks so much. Ah but no flash here- just brilliant sunshine! Not ideal conditions, admittedly.

Thanks for posting the pictures. It’s nice to see film still being used.

Film is getting hard to find. I don't think Kodak makes it anymore, but Fugi Film is still available, in some places.

Film is getting hard to find. I don't think Kodak makes it anymore, but Fugi Film is still available, in some places. There’s a bit of a resurgence happening in the realm of film photography. Opinions on how “serious” or prevalent it is may vary depending on who you talk to, but film is pretty widely available these days from plentiful sources. Kodak still makes and sells film, but has raised prices so it’s one of the more expensive brands. Fuji indeed does still make film but has discontinued production of some of the film stocks. But these two giants are far from the only ones offering film. I personally shoot film almost exclusively. Haven’t taken my digital camera out of the house in a long time, can’t recall when the last time was, actually. I have a handful of film cameras ranging from a 1930s folding medium format (6x9) Voigtlander Bessa as the oldest, to a reasonably modern 35mm rangefinder- also a Voigtlander (now Voigtlander Cosina in Japan) from the early 2000s as the newest. These days if I’m not shooting film, I just use my phone. It’s not the best but it works OK for documenting things on the fly and it is always handy because I always have it on my person. As good as phone cameras might have gotten, tho, there are still serious limitations. Don’t let anybody tell you a phone camera is as good as anything else because it’s just not true.

[quote=I Don’t let anybody tell you a phone camera is as good as anything else because it’s just not true. By no means a photographer, merely a snapshotter who sometimes gets a half decent pic, I prefer my $100 +tax Walmart bought Panasonic Lumix. Only use that so called "smart" phone camera when needs must.

The phone cam works great for certain things but you can’t expect too much of it. I shot (and posted, I’m sure you’ve seen em) a pile of pix from our beach run from my phone. Only shot one roll of film and haven’t gotten the scans in yet but will post em in Gordon’s thread at some point - soon, I hope. Panasonic Lumix is 100% respectable. Bryan. I’ve had a whole series of them and all have served me very well.

I haven't shot film in over 20 years. Most of mine was an old Minolta SRT101. I used to shoot concerts with HP5 pushed to 1600 and developed slowly. I don't have a darkroom anymore.
It's a shame that Triumph Day is always the same weekend as BIBR.

It's a shame that Triumph Day is always the same weekend as BIBR. Hey mix it up a little and swing up here for a change. The Triumph National Rally is truly worth the effort. Al Hartman et al do a fantastic job of it and this rally has gotten better and better over the years- and people come from all over the place these days.

700 miles, 11 hours vs 150 miles, 3 hours. Gasoline @ $3.50 and a van which gets 12 mpg, case closed. I've met Mr Healy a couple of times already.

Gordon.........who's going to make it this year come hell or high water. 24, 25, & 26 June 2022. I'm pretty sure there are no motels in Oley- its a tiny village. Might look at the Triumph National Rally WEBSITE tho... EDIT: might also look into Air BnB or just search Bed & Breakfasts in the area.
