I am wondering if there is anyone that deals in a replacement part for a Smith's speedometer drive gearbox. I am working on an older AJS single that has the older style, (more square looking housing) Smith's speedo drive gearbox that is driven by the rear wheel. The ring gear in the gearbox is sealed by a rubber seal bonded to a steel outer frame. I would like to find a replacement for this seal. Most of these Smith's units I have seen use a thick felt seal, but this one I have, and I am sure it is original, has this rubber grease seal. It is very thin at only about .118 that presses into a channel in the back of the drive housing. The outer diameter is 2.553, and the inner diameter, or the diameter of the ring gear that it seals to is 2.17
I have tried the places I can think of that may have such a thing, McMaster Carr, Grainger, etc. with no luck. I am guessing it was a proprietary manufactured item that I am hoping someone has a line on. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.

I have also been looking around for some internals.

Seems they fix them but don't sell parts. Also Nisonger instruments in NY appears similar, maybe you can email them. I just need a screw for a rubber stabilizer pad that kind of centers the face and having a devil of a time finding any info. I have not yet emailed either of these and selling me a screw is probably not highly profitable so I don't expect a great answer but it still beats the 90's when you had to track these folks down by phone or in person to have your hopes dashed laugh

Try Vintage British, they are great to deal with. The only place I buy speedo or tach cables.

I am thinking the same thing, my part need is not exactly a high profit item, and it is a bit unusual. Most all the speedo drives I have seen have the thick felt seal. The rubber grease seal I haven't seen before. I have dealt with Vintage British Cables in the past. I will try them. Perhaps I will get lucky.
