Does anyone have experience with the Motobatt MPLX14AU-HP Lithium battery for a 75 850 Commando Mk3? The specs state that it has 300 CCA, much higher than any other battery I've found. I've had very good luck with Motobatt AGM batteries in a 69 BSA 441 VS and a 68 Triumph Bonneville I own as well as two Polaris ATVs with electric start. I've never had a Motobatt AGM battery fail yet, one being over 5 years old, but this one is Lithium, not an AGM. Any problems using a Lithium battery in an 850 Commando Mk3?

What do they say about the charging requirements for these ?
Whats the warranty state ?

Now I've never bought a Lithium Iron type automotive battery, but when you read about,
all the blather about whats required in the way of voltages and chargers, I'm a shade wary.
Some folks do seem to report they work OK though.

I sent an email to Motobatt customer service and got an interesting response today that doesn't match their advertising. Motobatt customer service made the following statement: "We do not recommend Lithium batteries for anything outside of racing applications." Of course, this was nowhere to be seen on their advertising or any dealer advertising that I saw. The warranty is 2 years. The battery has some unique attributes. There is a circuit board internally that limits high charging voltage and shuts down when the voltage is too low to keep from running the battery flat. It also has a thermostat that turns the battery off in the case of heat exceeding their specs. I was really excited about the 300 CCA. Oh well, back to the 210 CCA with the MBTX14AU AGM battery.

I'm going to go ahead and order a Motobatt AGM battery for the Mk3 since I have had exceptional results with Motobatt AGM batteries in multiple motorcycles and ATVs.
