Yea, maybe to the first gas stop!!!! Boredom will have set in by then. We always ( I think? ) had good success with having two groups. I don’t necessarily equate speed with “good” (on public roads). I’d rather follow Mr Bryan ( aka BeezaBryan) than anybody else I’ve ever ridden with. In my book he’s the best rider I’ve been behind. Mr Dick Harris was a very close second. My bet is both of those gentlemen can ride fast if they wanted to. But I understand that’s not how everyone feels and l’m okay with that. Gordon

with the changes that have happened in the last 2 years it has been a small group, some new roads, some old roads and no parkway.it has also had me do the leading so it has been a relaxed pace ( don't go there Gordon ) and still 3 stops, I would like to figure out how to get in some of the parkway but so far does not look good. for the early arrivals we can still do that if wanted, Gordon I would never ask you to run the chase truck BUT you might be asked to lead a group, turn about is fair play LOL , all joking aside I would love have you here to enjoy a ride, on a motorcycle you put so much into even if it is not the same route end to end,

Windy wrote.... You got the handle on that part of the world now and I bet there are some interesting roads. I'd need some time to study a route if you want me to lead one......but would be more than happy to do so. "turn about is fair play"........yes sir, I leaned hard on you when I needed help. Hat's off to you for stepping up. I'm in this year..(2022)....Good Lord willing Gordon PS: Parkway photos deleted... ...one with split rail is actually on 58.

There was no need to deleat the parkway pics as it had been a part of this ride for many years and it was good to be reminded of that part of it. If yoy like i can send you the directions for last years ride so you can see where we went.

A different loop will be exciting.......believe me, I've been around the old loop to many times to count. I'm looking forward to something different. If and when you get time please send me the directions and I'll start learning the new parts.
The Parkway is nice and folks come from a long way off to ride up there.......but you know as well as I do that there are plenty of other options. Honestly my favorite section of the Parkway is from Cherokee to Asheville........really hard to beat that. Pretty much all we have at this end is the Viaduct.

.........snip.......but i think you know i was pretty good on a mountain road. Everyone is better than me on a mountain road.......I remember Bob finding out how good you were/are. No insult intended.......I was born and raised in Tallahassee. Been all over the state. Tallahassee was built on 7 hills. I took my kids back there for the first time ( Born in NC) and all they had to say was "Where are the hills?" Our only real curves around Tallahassee are on 98 by the Gulf. Just sharing some cracker humor with ya, thought you might be getting home sick........Gordon

I got something unexpected in the mail today ....
A Christmas card hand-addressed to me from the Shady Valley Country Store!
I'm trying to figure out how the heck they knew I was a regular there, well, somewhat regular whenever we ride through. I always use cash, I don't think I ever filled out a journal entry of any kind, and they must have THOUSANDS of people that come through there.
Anyone else get one?
I would rather have questions that can't be answered than answers that can't be questioned.

first off I did not yell at Willie. now as for accommodations i just got off the phone with the americort in mountain city and the wonderful lady shot me a discounted price of $198.00 for three nights all taxes included. that is Thursday through Saturday nights for the ones that dont want to camp here. it is about a 30 minute ride from the campground. I also need to here who wants a cabin?

I think the flavor for this week is "Peach" carb cleaner.
Gordon I don't remember any flavo(u)rs That was the "original", "Brake fluid Flavor". I much prefer the apple flavored solvent.

You mentioned the Americourt in Mountain City .... I stayed there last year. It's an older motel, but it was well run by friendly people, and was clean. $198 all told for three days is a pretty good deal for anyone's motel.
At first I thought it was not going to be so good, since it looked like there were local folks staying there sort of permanently, and that's a BAD danger sign usually. But every person I met there was friendly, talkative, and interested in my Norton, most of them actually knew what it was. Some locals, some traveling through like me, some construction workers.
It's a 15 mile ride, 25 minutes or so, to the campground, but means that you have to ride The Snake at least four times a day ... Oh no, what a tragedy! I was actually getting good at it before I was done.

I’m planning on being there. At this time I actually plan on attending as a rider for the first time. (after 20+years) I’ll gladly lead/join a group that would rather see the sights/scenery instead of having to constantly focus on tail lights and blacktop for 200 miles. I'll ride with Gordon. I like to stop and take pictures any place that looks interesting. All y'all just keep going until somebody hits reserve (or a deer.) Besides, I think I can keep up with a BSA single. Don't know when I'll arrive. I'd like to check out the roads around Harlan, KY on the way there.
Keep your head up and your stick on the ice.

David......when there's a chase vehicle you owe it to them to not make unscheduled stops. What I meant about "see the sights" is that if the speed limit is 55.......I'm going to do that and not 70-75.
I'm the kind of rider who doesn't like gearing up.....doing a 50 loop around the house and that's it. I like to get on the bike and ride......it takes about 100 miles ( first gas stop) for me to get in the "zone" then I can ride all day long. I LOVE waking up in the morning and the only thing familiar to me is my bike. The ride up to Mike G's OSMR is a perfect example of the type of riding I like ( 1200 +- MILES) . I really don't care for riding with others because I like to stop/start when I want to.
That said........the BEST group riding I've done is at Mike's OSMR. I'm always trying to keep up but so far they have never made me feel like I was holding them back. I've also never lost eye contact with everyone.......always been someone willing to ride along with me.
I still need to learn Windy's new route before I lead a group.....I'm pretty sure I know the first half and I've been on those roads a lot but the way he gets around the lake???? Not sure of that part. Hopefully one of the tech types has the route mapped??????
