This was the guy to see....Borris Murray ..This photo caught Murray at about 100 mph in a wheel stand smoking the tire... Early 1970's with a single speed gearbox, skinny 4 inch slick and no slipper clutches...just using wheel spin as a variable speed gearbox.

Can't do the wheel spinning at Santa Pod. They cover the track in that sticky glue

Andy, is that you with the nose cone? Drag bikes in the USA never used the cone for whatever reasons
Many strips here have prepped surfaces mostly because the car guys like it. Some bike riders in certain classes prefer some tire spin...

Yes, nose cone and alloy plate frame. British engineering from Bolton. Lancashire, the same town as CCM motorcycles.
I fitted a 5 speed gearbox to avoid the need to spin the wheel

I make another appearance at 45 mins. A 500cc single revving to 12K does sound good
