Odd one this.
I have discovered a missing nut and, I think, a missing stud. Not sure if I have lost it or it was never there (since I bought the bike). However I can't see it on the 1968 parts list. I have a nut on the right side of the bike connecting the engine plate to the frame. I don't want to remove it as it has been painted with the engine plate, so would rather leave alone. On the left there is hole in the engine plate (not shown in my 1968 parts list) and a threaded hole in the frame (is shown in the 1968 parts list) Can anyone tell me the part numbers or sizes of the nut and stud? Also, does anyone know why it's not shown in the 1968 parts list? Pictures below should help.
Many thanks Peter

It is 7/16 CEI or 7/16 UNF depending on build date. If CEI, it is the same as the alternator rotor stud. The nut is a special one, but you can use a standard nut with a wide washer or locking washer.

Hi Jon W Sorry, I should have included that image too. Mine does not show the hole in the Engine Plate. Having looked again this morning there is a stud and nut (20 & 37). But I guess the lack of hole in the diagram and the fact that the stud looks very long in the image threw me somewhat. Is it 20 and 37 I need? Many thanks Peter

Yes, and interestingly enough they are unified thread forms, changing much earlier than most of the other threads, so in "new" part numbers 21-0548 stud and 82-7389 nut, and they are available all over the place. Interestingly, none of the various years parts books show the holes properly.

Thanks TinkerToo....I have history of not looking at the parts book correctly, so pleased it not me this time.
Bit worrying that it's fallen off at some point but will get one ordered up.
