Bought some new O rings and a fitting tool to replace the ones on my 1951 all alloy T100 engine only to find there are no O rings and no O ring grooves to be seen on my rocker spindles!

I'm guessing this is normal for an early T100.

With no O rings to prevent oil seeping past the end of the rocker spindles, any tips to keep it oil-tight? Or do I just accept that it's a Triumph and therefore oil leaks are all part of the ownership experience?

Everything was leaking before!

It was apparently rebuilt by 'an expert' when I acquired it but clearly he wasn't an expert at building engines. Many horrors were discovered included an oil release valve lacking the piston and spring (so almost nil oil pressure), and the rotary crankcase breather disc so worn it was not functioning at all.

I've stripped and carefully rebuilt the entire engine (and the gearbox and clutch) and I'm confident it will be somewhat less incontinent when it's all completed.

There was a slight weep from each rocker spindle, but with the crankcase breather now functioning properly, that may cease anyway. Will probably apply some Wellseal ot Heldtite sealant on the spindle/rocker casing interface.

Yep. Smear some yamabond on before pushing the spindle home.

Smear after cleaning both the shaft and rocker box hole with alcohol.
