I am looking for the part numbers for a 69 A65:

1) The gasket for the inspection cover near the front of the primary cover. The parts list says it is 68-840 but it must be a different number since vendors
do not carry it by this part number.

2) The rubber o-ring for the two primary plugs. The parts book lists 70-8782 as the number for fiber washer but does not list one for a rubber o-ring.

Thank you in advance

It’s always a good idea to have a box of assorted o’rings. Often one that looks about the right size and thickness will do the job. Especially in this instance.

Now let’s all have a beer beerchug

68’ A65 Lightning “clubman”
71’ A65 823 Thunderbolt (now rebuilt)
67’ D10 sportsman (undergoing restoration)
68’ D14 trials (undergoing transformation)

Anytime you have a three-digit number after the main category/component number, in this case, 68 being the main category number, you must add a zero or 0 before the existing digits.

Example: 68-840 becomes 68-0840

For two-digit numbers, add two zeroes / 00

i think the part number is the same , or works
70-8782
just add O RING, INSPECTION PLUG, to the search in instead of fiber washer .

same size is used on bsa and triumphs
o-ring size
OD: 1" (25.4mm)
ID: 7/8" (22.3mm)
Thickness: 1/6" (1.9mm

the generic o-rings from the hardware store should be
Good enough for this particular application .
for reference
the google says the fibre washers are
OD: 1 3/16"
ID: 1"
Thickness: 1/16 ...

The 1970 parts book lists 70-8782 as an "O" ring. The error of listing it as a fiber washer in the 1969 parts book was probably an oversight when updating from the 1968 and previous years' parts books which specified 40-0239 fiber washers. Basically a copy and paste error facepalm

For the O rings use 70-7310. Triumph black pushrod tube O rings. Work a treat.
