Some people say this is not normal, to start a 500cc 1cil this easy.

Comperssion measured = 9:1

Ignition timing a bit retarded.

What do you think about this guys?

He is using the valve decompressor so yes if you take it to just past TDC using the decompressor then there will be no compressed gases and no resistance to kicking until the next TDC 680 or so degrees later, by which time the kick energy will be in the flywheels as inertia and will easily take it over a fully compressed TDC. Try that with a B50 and you are asking for trouble, wrong gearing on the kickstart lever, 10:1 compression and much lighter flywheels than B33.

That's how I start mine from cold:
On centre stand
Petrol on
1/2 retard
air lever nearly closed
tickle carb (hot or cold)
take piston over centre gently
long 'swing' on kickstart (with a pair of Goldtops, not flip-flops!)
Starts first or second swing.

If you have the bike set up properly with decent ignition, a carb that isn't a clapped out pos, and proper technique, then why wouldn't it start like that?

An old mechanic, many years ago, told me engines want to run, that is their purpose, you don't have to MAKE them run. If they aren't running, then you just have to find out what is stopping them from doing what they want to do.
