parts Manual shows two (2) different p/n's for the mounting studs - 6x 68-0018 (15/32" length) and 2x 68-0531 (3/8" length). the Manual doesn't give any real info on exact location, thus the question - where do the two shorter studs go? all eight (8) seem to go into blind holes.

the 2 different studs will be of the type which are shouldered.

One goes front left corner (from looking down if you were sat on the bike)

However if you have these studs to hand, you can find out where in the barrel the shoulders will fit and that will tell you.

+1 Allan,...... the shoulders, or Dowel Pegs, fit in the larger base holes and are what positively locates the cylinder in a precise position. The others simply add to the hold down.

thanks Allen - i do have 2 shouldered studs, located left front corner, and far right side. they correspond with larger holes in the cylinder barrel, HOWEVER, i have additional, front studs holes in the barrel that would accept shouldered studs. the shouldered studs are the longer 1-15/32" length. really need to know where the shorter 1- 3/8 stud go. don't know the history of the bike, and it's obvious somebody has had things apart. i don't have faith in anything right now.

go to fleabay , pull up bsa a65 cases .
look at the pics . any and all years , shouldered-stud location is the same .
you may not even notice the 2 wirh shoulders until you are
aware to look for them ... and then there they are .
