I buy a BSA and suddenly I’m getting all this stuff in, eh?

Guess their algorithms are finely attuned to the rhythms of the universe at large then.... ah well such is life on the World Wide Web in the 21st century.

But wait.
It’s a great story about a guy riding his BSA all the way to the IoM. From Australia! And not just last week either; this was many moons ago.

Very cool article! It would be difficult enough of a trip nowadays with modern technology as a guide, but to do all this without cell phones, the internet, etc. is incredibly impressive. Especially in a world that recently got through fighting a massive, draining war.

I haven't seen a spare tire strapped to a bike since a guy left a Ton Up meeting with a car tire strapped to the back of his Victory.
I always brought them home from the shop around my waist.

Very common for people to ride / drive from OZ to the Old dart back in the day
Remember it was a two, three or four trip by air as a llot of the airliners only flew in daylight hours and the cost was the same as the deposit on a house .
Phil Irving for example rode to the UK as the pillion on a Comet .
HE always claimed that is why he thought it needed the second cylinder .

Sounds like an interesting challenge for a retirement distraction. Just because I live in Brisbane.


Think I'd try around Australia first though.

I wonder if it might be more challenging in some ways because technology has moved on? Planes instead of ferries etc. Too many loonies with AK47s between here and there these days is my instant thought.

An interesting trip! I have sometimes wondered about riding from UK to Russia and putting the bike on a boat to cross the Bering Strait to USA.
