So …….. what with the total 24 / 7 curfew we in Antigua are now under I have started to strip down the next B44 motor, bit of a mess, some good, some bad and some ????
Big end ....... absolutely zero up and down movement......... Every where I look I see the statement "some side to side" movement is ok, and "you will get a feel for how much is acceptable". In the last 40 years I have built 2 of these things ….. not really had much chance to develop a feel!

Measuring at the small end with the rod at TDC there is 1mm of rock either way. Is the big end junk?

2mm is really good for rock, but side to side is different and you have to move the lower end of the rod from side to side which is the end float of the rod on the roller big end bearing, it just confirms there is some movement and its not excessive but there is not definition of excessive.

Just realised, i have a B44 crank in the garage, feels like a good bigend, side to side at the top of the rod just over 1mm total movement. Side to side at the bigend 1mm.
