At the bottom of my '69 Tiger's Tach and Speedo are some numbers. For example, on the bottom of the Tach are the numbers RSM 3003/01, and on the speedo are SSM5001/06, What do the /01, /06, and other numbers, such as, /05 and /01A that I've seen mean?

Each variation of speedo and tach has a number, thus: /00, /01, /02, etc.

L.A.B., I suspected that and thanks for the reply, but I'm still wondering what the numbers MEAN.
As an example, my original '69 tach has the numbering RSM 3003 / 01. So, if I restore and install a tach with an /01A suffix, would an astute judge know that it doesn't belong on a '69, and it only belongs on a '70 ?

The actual /xx number doesn't seem to refer to any specific technical specification but appears to have been allocated in numerical order.

Yes, the number does basically identify the make and model (or models) the speedo and tach would have been fitted to originally, so RSM 3003/01 and SSM 5001/06 would be the correct items for a '69 Triumph 650 but not for a '70 model 650 as the '70 items were SSM 5007/00 and RSM 3003/13.

It has been suggested the 'A' stands for anti-vibration but A (or B) seems more likely to signify a minor alteration to the original specification.

...hi, I have checked the Raskcycle page but did not found my clocks numbers.
I have a 79 with SSM 4003/03 600 and tachometer 3003/23 Says SMITHS with the nice logotype not with that newer.

Thanks

Raskcycle will only cover MPH clocks, not KPH.

As you are probably aware the '79 parts book only lists the Veglia instrument numbers (but not the Veglia km/h speedo number) and the Triumph part numbers for both types but not the Smiths instrument numbers.

'SSM 4003/03 600' speedo sounds about right for a '79 km/h (as MPH is 4003/02), the RSM 3003/23 tach could also be correct [edit] as that is the number on the Rask list.

'600' (cable turns per km) is compatible with the standard 1.25:1 (15/12) speedo drive gearbox. A 1.25:1 MPH speedo would be marked '1000' (cable turns per mile).

L.A.B.
Thanks so much for the Rask Cycle link to their table of Triumph Tach & Speedo numbers.
I acquired an RSV 3003 / 01A Tach recently from a dismantler who is parting out a 1970; however, 3003/01 only appears in Rask's table from '66 thru '69. As you suspect, I think the "A" is a minor alteration to the tach, and, I believe it was manufactured by Smith's toward the end of the 1969 model year, then installed on a 1970 model at the beginning of it's model year.

oddly enough, Rask Cycle is about 30 air miles from me
