Just out of curiousity, has anyone tracked down the (many) patent numbers associated with Norton motorcycles ? - or any other brand for that matter.
Every little (and major) improvement is patented ( so other makers can't copy it.)
Patent numbers and badges abound - but what ddo they mean, and how are such things described and illustrated.
Anyone know the patent number for a slimline frame, for example.

the Commando frame, being more recent can actually be found online. But the earlier stuff ?
Do you need a Readers Ticket, and visit the British Library for the full chapter and verse ?

This site has most (all?) of the European patents for Norton Motors: Norton Motors patents

There may be others with a slightly different manufacturer's name.

Thanks Ian.

That euro site has only bare details of patents though, no actual text for what the (early) patents are for, and no supplied diagrams/drawings.

The Commando patent, later of course, at least has the frame patent diagram, and some text.

They do have text and drawings if you click on the heading for each patent eg https://worldwide.espacenet.com/pub...70203&CC=GB&NR=460733A&KC=A#
