After what we consider an absolutly terrible winter, all the snow melted in two days with three days of rain and now everything is flooded.

I went down to watch the platte river, normally four feet deep or less, now about a half mile or more across with hugh trees and a large trash dumpster floating by. problem is my gun club with 8 traps is on the river bottom.

Hey Boys!

I can't believe it's only three weeks until the British invasion at the Blowing Rock inn. I'm assuming if I haven't heard from one of the regulars I need to hold their room. I still have plenty of rooms available, so if there is someone who usually doesn't come that needs a room just give me a call.

See everybody soon.

Hi Melissa et al !

I'm assuming I'm a regular, but I won't be able to make it this year frown . You can save room 11 for me next year! wink

Y'all have fun, take lots of pics and be safe!

So I have the Edwards crew for their villa, Lannis called me about their villa, Willie emailed me that their not going to make it this year, I'll put Steve down for 111 for 2020, I'll put Whatley down for 2020, let me know if I missed anyone.

So this year's ride has 12 rooms booked, so I'm going to have to rent some rooms to normal people, so I expect you all to be on your best behavior this year. Don't make the WV side of me have to come out!!!

See you guys in a couple of weeks.

After four years, I am not going to be able to make this year. I am going to miss the camaraderie, the bikes, et al. Mike G. - we talked about sharing a room, I wanted to give you a heads up. Best wishes to all and have a safe ride.

Hey now, you guys back off Commando and his slightly abnormal owner, Richard is about the only Brit Bike member I hear from other than your normal weekend at the hotel.

Besides a girl from the mountains of WV that was an art major can't exactly throw stones at others!!

did the route and sadly the 45 mile section of the parkway is still there. now that i have your attention all the roads were in good shape and the gas stops are OK also. looking forward to seeing you lot in a few days. also as of today the weather is looking good but that is subject to change but it will be cool mid week so bring some warm gear and dont forget the wet gear also just in case.

My son and I will be there Friday morning. Anyone have a spare motorcycle?

His Bonnie is having issues...we have a Boyer box on order. Hopefully that is the fix. We shall see.

David...are you trailering? If so bring it anyway as these characters love to fix other people's machines. And offer advice. I usually bring two or three. Sometimes they all work.

Does someone need a bike?

I might could make happen...

Richard. What are your plans for Windys?

I’m planning on starting out tomorrow and heading for either Blueridge Motorcycle campground or the Iron Horse lodge. Either way I plan on spending a bunch of time up on my Cathedral the Blue Ridge Motorcycle camp ground. I think my son will be coming along for a day or two.

Hey Melissa.
The worst thing that ever happened was old guys on their hands and knees looking for tiny springs in the parking lot from an old British carburetor.

Define “best behavior.”

Well...the flying car I've been waiting for is still on backorder, and the idea of spending 20 plus hours in a grounded car does not appeal to me this year, so Grampy and I are riding modern iron down.

I wanted to thank everyone for welcoming me for my first TSMR this year. I met a few of you and hope to meet the rest next year. I think a great time was had by all I know I did. A special thanks to Windy for organizing and feeding me a bunch of information throughout the ride.

I TOL' you, I said it, I said that that noise was just a bit of wear and it wasn't going to hurt anything, I said you'd make it home OK on it, and here were all the guys predicting doom and blown engines and rod knocks and broken engine cases an' all.

You've built up enough BSA karma riding them everywhere, riding them hard, and they're not going to let you down, it's not in nature. That bit of noise is just "Hey, boss, gettin' a little tired here, have a look inside when we get home ...."

Be all that as it may, we enjoyed the weekend bigly, lots of socializing and excellent mountain riding as always .....

Got home around 7:30 after dropping my son Edward off in Chattanooga.

He had a GREAT time riding and meeting all of you.

I had him in my rear view the whole time and he did very well on some very technical roads. I am proud of him.

Thank you Windy for helping me with the route!

See you all next year.

Just got home, last 50 miles had to argue with the dash board bitch to stay awake. Now I have an intense urge to ride.

Getting to where you are arguing with the dashboard is pretty bad. When you find yourself having a discussion with the transmission shifter knob, it's time to pull over and sleep ...

Sure glad you were able to make it. When I see you coming from Nebraska, and folks coming from Florida and Louisiana and outer New England, it's a bit humbling to think how far you come just to hang out with fellow Britbikers and Brit-kindred-spirits ...

897 trailer miles yesterday, back to the 94° swamp and well worth the trip. Great company and superlative roads with perfect weather - what else could you want?

Thanks to anyone who organised anything, specially Windy.

I'd like to bring my Norton next year perhaps, but for three days prior to the actual TSMR it was tough enough on a modern bike keeping up with a couple of old museum pieces, although Rich & Paul's bikes were in good shape which helped them.

As they would say in these parts, good to meet all of y'all.

It really was a great week and the old girl (Norton) never missed a beat despite being ridden for 5 days hard and fast - well, for me, anyway (and yes, it was fun to outrun a 2018 BMW on mountain roads, heh heh).

Many thanks to Windy, Melissa and Ray and anyone else who might have had a hand in organizing the ride this year.

Great to see all of you, again, and to meet a few for the first time.

pics will be along.

This was the best week I've had out there yet. except for one small mishap, everything was great. I watched Paul pick up some big old blonde (just like Bryan did at Ashland). learned about hauling aligators on the back of a norton, was proposed to by my dream girl at the ham shoppe, learned the term "sweater puppies", and made it home alive.

Weather was great, all of you were great, etc etc etc. we did have a lot of MIA's this year. we need to work on that.

Sitting on my couch with a cold PBR at hand after 2305 miles of lovely sunshine, biblical rain/hail/thunder, cold and sweaty hot riding. I had a great time even though I was riding modern wheels (possibly the best time riding the actual route as a "halffast" rider) but I learned a few things:
1) put a new seat on the Bandit before doing a long ride such as that again.
2) make sure your chain and sprockets are not as old/worn as mine
3) take more than a few days to do the trip
4) think twice about trailering down....then do it
My azz is sore and I'm really tired but still wouldn't trade the experience for anything. Thank you all for putting up with Paul J and me.

It’s nice to be missed (just making a bit of an ASSuption!).

Tried my darnedest, but no bueno. Consolation was the British and European and Japanese vintage show (Classic Motorcycle Day) just 13 miles down the road from my house. It wasn’t 200+ miles thru God’s back yard, but it was better that nothing!

Look forward to some pics,

Steve

Pics, you say ...

Well, here’s a few candid shots, I’m sure that others did a much more thorough job of taking pics …

Man with No Name Bill Edwards contemplating his Trident that Semper Gumby will ride on the ride. Mr. Gumby’s faithful BSA Thunderwing is in the background and would normally be his ride but it was making a bit of racket and since he had to ride it home later, he didn’t want to push it. Kudos to M.W.N.N. for always bringing a few extra bikes for people to ride if they need one …

[Linked Image]

There were 4 riders this year there along with their sons, this is getting to be a multigenerational thing.
This is my one:

[Linked Image]

Even more multigenerational when the young folks bring their sweeties along for the ride. Alec and Sarah first attended 10 years ago when they were first married, and put 600 miles on the Versys coming down and back …

[Linked Image]

This here is David from Atlanta’s son Edward with his own Triumph, sorting out an electrical problem before the ride, excellent practice I must say:

[Linked Image]

That’s me on the TSMR Norton heading out in the morning …

[Linked Image]

Here’s most of the crowd for a photo-op before take-off …. The young fellow on the far right is Chris, son of Bob (who lurks just behind him). Don Roe and his son The Boy were already off to the races ..

[Linked Image]

With this group as a sample, I have ZERO fear that interest in BritBikes will “die out” once my generation is gone to the great Goat Path In The Sky ….

sorry for the late reply but i had a lot of stuff to get on as soon as i got back to my place with a grueling 45 mile drive. this years was some of the best weather i can remember but the parkway did not let us down with a rain shower but it was nothing like the rain from last year. the good thing was no crashes or breakdowns and all made it back safely. i do want to give a thanks to lannis and no name for doing the lead work and the use of bills trailer. also to alec for back tracking to find the lost ones.that is one for another time.or the guilty party can tell on himself LOL. i hope and think everyone had a good time and see you all next year.

Glad all went good. What is the actual mileage of the ride?? Planning on attending in 2020. Things here winding down with my mom inlaw. She is now in long term care but fading fast. CJ & I have been home caring for her at our house since Nov. 2017. CJ is a retired CNA and at 63 yrs. young her mom's care just got to be too much. So our normal life is starting to return. I'm thinking about bring a vintage Brit and my 03 Bonny.
Did SG find out what is BSA noise is? Thanks Geoff

Actual mileage of the ride is 210 or so, we take several breaks and gas stops so even an old johnny-popper single (like my M21) can do it.

Of course, there are those in the "fast group" who already carry with them a half-smoked cigarette and partial cup of coffee so that they can jump off their bikes at the stops, and act like they've been lounging around for 30 minutes waiting for the ones behind to get there .... Old trick, can't fool me with it!

Good for you and CJ for taking care of her mom. It's not easy but it's the right thing. And also the right thing to get 24/7 professionals to do it once it gets beyond what you can do.

Hope to see you next year!

Lannis

Thanks for the info. See what I decide. It's getting harder to ride long distance. Hips, knees, back, neck. 200 miles I should be able to deal with. Just need to remember the Aleve!! Just finished listening to IOM super bike race and sidecars. SB race red flagged and called at the start of lap 3 race had already been shortened to 4 laps from 6 might have a fatality. Thanks Geoff

List of excuses

Had to help putting the gun club back together AGAIN after flooding AGAIN

Hiding from contractors and homeowners who want me to put homes back together after the two floods

Having to fix a Honda that came into the shop

Having to build a Norton for a kid who has no clue what a Norton is

Trying to start my t150 project. No luck

Having to finish the last 60 feet wood fen e in the backyard from the last tornado

Having accredit card hacked and having piles of junk delivered every day

Trying to remember to send pics of the yammy to Bob

Helping Paul fix his Vincent. Again and again

Having to consol Paul because his Norton will no longer start after the tsmr

And now I have to shoot a league.

BUT ITS ON MY LIST.

and I did retire in January but I didn't like it.

Ps, how do I turn off the spell checker?

It's just a matter of priorities. Pick the one that you think is highest on the list, post those pictures and then get to your list. Simple and easy!
