It's the "modern usage" of the word, because people are scared of insulting anyone!! (Present company excluded as always).

See it on the news all the time. A Good Samaritan is being interviewed after saving someone from an attack.

"Well, I was walking down Main Street and in front of me I saw a (white, black, Hispanic) gentleman with a Tee-ball bat beating up a woman who was laying on the ground, so I stepped up, was able to get the bat away from him, and held him til the police came .... "

I'd use the word "punk" myself, but that's the way it sort of is .... Even the police are like "We caught the gentleman who is a suspect in 5 serial killings ..."!

I will be back up in shady by april 5th. I am not sure what is going on with the country store yet as they were closed for the winter and struggled last year keeping gas and inventory. i should know more by the middle of april. there might be a change in the lunch/gas stop but it is a wait and see. we can gas up in mountain city and have lunch in shady across the street if need be but it will need to be a limited menu to get out fast. i am not fond of this as we try to stay out of towns but there might not be any other way this year. i will also look at using last years 3rd. gas stop befor the 16/ mouth of wilson turn because of the larger parking lot

see yall in a few weeks

that way wendy could fix all the break downs while we eat.

seriously, we could probably find someone in Mountain to cater a hamburger or hotdog lunch in a parking lot if it wasn't raining.

...and if it is raining?

I bet we could find a sleepy little town somewhere along the route and take it over for lunch time, scare the women and children a little bit.....

Amazing how one staged photo in Life magazine changed American motorcycling culture so much.

The dude standing behind the bike is still around (or was a short time ago). He watched the "Life" photographer sweep up a bushel of beer bottles from the street, pile them around the bike, grab this dude, and set him on the bike (it wasn't even his bike) and took the picture.

Said it was a good weekend in Hollister, no harm done, and the merchants were smiling all the way to the bank ....!

A good example of why I don't pay attention to the "News" any more, too.

No fake news here by GUM!! HEADLINES!!!

The bucolic countryside of the three state area will soon be shattered again as hordes of bikers descend on our hometowns
[Linked Image]

As in years past wild drunkenness and general un-pleasantness is expected:
[Linked Image]

Signs of the abundant alcohol usage are everywhere

[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

some believe that outside agitators, possible foreign nationals, are responsible for the mayhem and unruliness. Here we see one not only inciting the crowd, but also helping to keep their infernal two wheeled death machines going
[Linked Image]

The surly crowds gathered everywhere, causing the locals to flee in terror!
[Linked Image]

How long must this lawlessness go on before somebody does SOMETHING????

I was late calling the Blowing Rock for a reservations and as of today (Mar 31) they have no reservations available. Didn't talk with Ray or Melissa. As I remember they don't start answering the phone till some time in April and there is no e-mail. Expedia and a agent with broken English is all I could talk to. Any way to get hold of Ray or Melissa in case there is a cancellation?

To be honest, I've never been able to get in touch before the first week in April or so - they're either working hard on upgrades or taking a well-earned vacation, because between April and October, it's 24 hours a day 7 days a week, no breaks.

Expedia shows no reservations because Ray and Melissa block off the entire motel for our weekend, so the service shows it full; they handle that week manually. I'll be very surprised if they haven't got something for a long-timer like yourself .... !

Three R3’s. Whoah it’s going to be tight. That would be a great picture though.
And I was just up in North Ga riding the 6v Lighting Rocket on it’s newly rightsized Heidenaus.
It corners so well.

Starting to work on the May schedule now....

Well crap! I missed last year and had my heart set on bringing my T160 again this year to ride near Sempers R-3.
Unfortunately i waited to long for a much needed shoulder surgery and have been told to stay off bikes for at least another 6 months. While moving my T160 around in the garage was confirmation enough that I won't be able to ride for several more months!
THIS SUCKS!!!!

You don't have to ride, you know, that was taken out of the Bylaws some years ago ... !!!

Just being there is perfectly acceptable!

I hope to make the ride this year.
With any luck I'll have the T120v on the trailer. If not, I'll ride the Beemer there.

All right you guys, all this puffing up and squaring off and stiff-legging around is gonna give someone the idea that maybe he might have to exceed North Carolina speed limits, and you KNOW we wouldn't want that .... !! whistle

I just had a thought, Mike, remember that little road you and grammpy followed me on last year? or two years ago? wouldn't that be the perfect road for Bob and his r3?

that may be, but that little 350 will get to 100 quick enough to stop and smoke a cigar waiting for the triple.

and there aint no place on that road where ANY bike will hit 100

Hurrah.
Got the week off.

Probably trundling off to TWOs on Monday.
BlueRidge Motorcycle Camp Ground on Tuesday.
Windy's on Wednesday.
Blowing rock on Friday.

Remains to be seen what I'll be riding.

Have a basic plan and then let life fill in the blanks.

remember our conversation about bringing spare parts for an emergency box? everybody bring something that may be needed in a breakdown. I'll bring a couple of coils and some odd cables.

maybe a AMAL need clip or two. What else?

Good idea. I know I've got working Zeners and a rectifier and some cables and stuff on the shelf ... I'll chuck some in a bag and bring them along ....

I had my usual pre-vacation work week from hell. always seems to happen about this time. The nice weather they were predicting all week has turned into cold and damp. I'm half ready and totally burned out. Two dog sitters are lined up and one left. makes me wonder, "are you guys worth it?"

I guess so. I've been going back to the first pages of this board and reading the stories. Who could make that up?. It really has been fun. See some of you in a few days and the rest friday.

I guess so. I've been going back to the first pages of this board and reading the stories. Who could make that up?. It really has been fun. See some of you in a few days and the rest friday.

Richrd -

It's always been a nell of a trip for you to make, from Omaha Nebraska all the way to Blowing Rock North Carolina, whether it be on the Norton or another bike or hauling bikes for someone in a truck.

You making that trip has always been inspiring to me, whenever I'm thinking "Geez, I don't want to ride 300 miles to Rally X, maybe I'll just bag it", and I for one always enjoy seeing you there, and am forever grateful for the work you did getting me on board the Norton that I was always saying I wanted but never doing it. (I'll be riding it down there this year.)

ON THE OTHER HAND, you've got nothing to prove to anyone - you've done it all, you've done it the hard way over and over again, and the TSMR has been all the better for your example and attendance over the years.

So if it's just time to take a year off, then that's the way it is and if that's what your sanity (or what's left of it) requires, then do that. But if you can see your way clear to coming, I'll enjoy saying hello when I pull up into the BWI parking lot on Friday!!

OK, before Paul can get in and post a bunch of lies about me and my bike, I got four blo is from home, all down hill, when the Norton lost forward drive. It could have been an easy fix, but the question of why it happened was still there.

One option was to trailer it and fix it at Windy's. Option 2 was the old appliance. But I let someone talk me into option 3. Ride the new old appliance.

So I,m sorry, but no Norton for me this year, I can understand if no one wants to be seen with me.

Considering what some folks might be riding I wouldn't worry too much whistle...but not to worry, if it's good enough for Commando Kitty it should be good enough for everyone.

Gosh it is raining here by the bucketful. So I checked the weather forecast. 80-90% chance of rain and thunderstorms all weekend... on a thin band... which reaches... all the way from my house to Blowing Rock !!

Wouldn't you just know it. laughing

That's a good default position for almost ANYTHING like this. "It's Whatley's fault". You're more than likely right, and even if you're not, everyone will believe it ... !
