[/quote] First I've ever heard or seen of a '70 Firebird with low pipes from the factory. Anything can happen though. By 1970, every BSA was potentially a "parts bin special", not to mention the mods the dealers made when they were delivered to the Home Market, Eastern US, Western US, Canada, or the Commonwealth, or when a customer made a specific request. I talked to the guy who bought my Firebird new from the dealer in 1969. He hated the near-side pipes with the bird-cage shield, so before the dealer even delivered it to him, the original pipes had been trashed and a pair of '68 FBS pipes installed ... Lannis

In looking closely at the Canadian brochure, it looks like they took a stock Lightning

In looking closely at the Canadian brochure, it looks like they took a stock Lightning and added the small headlamp and the FBird tank. White fork covers? Now really, whose idea was that.
This thing was probably shunned faster than an Amish farmer with a skinhead haircut and a Nirvana tattoo.

It is sort of the same color scheme that was used on the 70 US market B25. Looks like the same gas tank too, though different color.
Probably looked dynamite under a black light...

I took this pic last Sunday inside the British Beer Company restaurant in Framingham, Massachusetts. It is a 1970 Y bike. I should have taken a close up of the VIN but it did very clearly identify it as a Firebird Scrambler. May not be correct and all but was a very nice, clean and presentable machine ! ![[Linked Image]](http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/whittiger650/BritBike/1970%20BSA%20650%20Firebird%20Scrambler_zpsgehgi6av.jpg)

Looks pretty in that light; if 'twas mine, I'd either put the high pipes back on or find a Lightning side-cover, and the tank looks like it's missing a rubber mount, too far down in front. You have to be a guy who knows where the skeletons in your OWN Firebird's closet are hidden to be able to tell these things .... !! Lannis

Nice looking Firebird Scrambler from Facebook. Although I'd go for the original tank ![[Linked Image]](http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd81/wadeschields/Loadem%20up/11138547_1002069299805995_3148397233095203227_n_zpsammghye4.jpg)

But I'd ditch the pipe wrap before it ruins the pipe metal.

Does anyone know if the 70 FS blue is a candy color or is it just normal paint? If candy , does it have a silver base?

Hi mates, I recently joined the brotherhood of FS owners. I had already shown the bike off at the R&T. ![[Linked Image]](http://up.picr.de/27307833ec.jpg) The poor old BSA was in a terrible state technically although looking really really nice. Anyway... I shall get the engine back in within the next two or three weeks. I have now bought a set of Premier carbs as the ones on the bike were a mismatched pair of 930 and 932. The manual states main jet sizes as 220 which seems quite rich on first glance. Has anyone of you first hand experience with a stock 71 FS? This could save me from fiddling with the mains, as due to the exhaust pipes accessibility to the float bowls is, errr...., limited.... Thanks in advance and best regards Ph.

70 Firebird blue seems to be candy with a silver base. I bought two about 17years ago. The underside of a tank was still blue, the top faded but it looked to have a silver base.
I rebuilt one and sold it.

I have had 2 Firebirds in the last 20 years, the first a 69 model and the current one is a matching numbers 1970 model supposedly came to Australia from New Zealand in 1978.I have fitted a petrol tank off a starfire because it is much bigger than the original one. the 1970 petrol tank is black and chrome knee pads. and has high pipes on the left.

Good luck with it. Mine is still on hold but hopefully this summer it will be on the road... The painter went and bought metal flaked blue paint but I really want to push him to do the candy with silver base

I like the badgeless tank. It makes it different from the rest therefore keeping it interesting for me. I can see why everyone changes the stock mufflers though.... But I think I'll keep mine stock anyway....

I have a 1970 BSA F/S (in a box) so I have been having trouble even getting pictures of basic issues: Are there any websites that would show some detailed pictures of a 1970 BSA Firebird? (I have looked but to no avail) I am having problems with mounting the Zenier diode (how really does it attach to bike) and where does the rectifier get located (I have found a spot under seat by the battery, which looks good) and are the capacitors mounted below seat on a little bar? It looked like a good spot so that is where I put it. Anyway without some sort of picture (I bought bike in a box) it is even tough to get correct routing of wire harness. And, were the heck does the right side cover bottom oddie attach too,Thanks in advance

Its a good idea to get yourself a BSA manual for a start and a spare parts manual, this will show you where things go. The zener goes just above the ignition lock.

Hello, my name is Tobias and I am from the south of Germany, Bavaria. Since last November I am restoring a BSA Firebird Scrambler from 1970. This motorcycle is very rare in BMW country. Sure, I'll ask one or two questions to the Firebird owners abroad from (US) A to (New) Zealand. ![[Linked Image]](http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d24/Tobias_Niggl/bsa/IMG_0029_zps86pquvkb.jpg) In this condition I bought it....... ![[Linked Image]](http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d24/Tobias_Niggl/bsa/IMG_4132_zpssxjxfyqq.jpg) ....and this is more or less the current condition. The colour changed from fire truck red to flamboyant red, another handlebar, levers, headlight, all electrics new, dozens of seals, screws, brackets - the little things that nobody sees but me cheers Tobias
