I have an NOS '70 FB blue tank in a box somewhere. I always thought it odd to have a BSA tank with no Badges. ........We don't neeeed no Steenkin Batges...... Also, the center mounted cap and welded lower edge is almost like BSA found a bunch of old '66 tanks stock or something, and made do with it for a new model. 1 Year only.

Boomer,...Sorry...I didn`t mean to be redundant. Just trying to put info out there that some folks might not already know. I suppose it`s more common knowledge now...the price of `70 Starfire tanks has risen lately. Wade,...I`ll try again. Interesting photos you`ve posted. The list must be growing.

Well that got my attention, put me on the right of first refusal list (you know - mee, mee, mee) when you determine if it's in excess of your needs KC.

When you do find the box with the tank in it give me a shout.
I'd run on down to Santa Barbara just to look at it! smile

I always thought that would be great alternate tank for my 1970 Lightning.
Not so much ethusiasm for the wide, heavy waisted one sided exhaust system...

Hello. Here are some pics of a Firebird Scrambler with engine and frame #PC(November,1969)14584 A65F. The BSAOC site claims the A65F was a 1970 model. http://www.bsaownersclub.co.uk/Engine_Frame_Listing.html#1960.

It has 1400 miles on the odometer. It has been converted to a negative ground charging system with a Tympanium rectifier/regulator.(why? I dunno.) It's been cannibalized for the chain guard and some rear axle and brake drum parts. Sorry I left the side covers off, I do have them. Otherwise it is as original as I found it in a relative's barn in Michigan. I haven't purchased this one yet but I'm working on it this winter.

DP,....Nice item. Hope you harpoon it. ID # suggests (along with the tank) that it`s a late `69 model. Share your progress on the project when you score.

BSA model years are a bit of a trap. The model year started around August of the previous calendar year, give or take a bit. PC would be built in November 1968. for the 1969 model year.
A quick way to tell a 1970+ A65 is that they use the ball-ramp clutch lift mechanism with the clutch cable entering the timing cover from vertically above. Lots of things can get changed in 40+ years, so it's not guaranteed to be the case, of course.

The bike looks in nice shape, so it's definitely worth chasing and putting back on the road.

I've got a 69 matching number original paint (but faded).

I will prolly repaint the tank and covers this winter.

Brother Dieter,

Is a 1966 120 1.8 liter. Runs great but falling apart. It lived a lot of it life in a state that used salt for winter roads. You can have it for $500 and if you do show up the Samuel Smiths Chocolate Stout is free for the afternoon! :g

Hey Bill
Nice offer, and, if it would be around the corner i would go for it. But i think i dont have the time to rebuild a rusty car.
Maybe you can drive it over for the danish international...?

I have a 69 Firebird and wonder if the guys with together ones can tell me if the chainguard should be black or chrome. Also does anyone have a birdcage condition relatively unimportant as i do not have one.By the way my left sidecover has the 3 Fasteners and is the short type.

Chainguards chrome. In watching ebay almost daily for years, only ever saw a couple of the birdcages. If I wanted one I'd probably call everybody: Baxter's, Beno Rodi, Walridge, etc., and all the sponsors of this board.

Rusty,
Would you ask Wes if they have a '69 F B muffler support bracket, and how much one would cost? New or preferably used, I won't care, I MUST be cautious about pricing...

I've seen a number of 'birdcages' at VMD, back when I was going... Some at the OVBSAOC meets... I've had a good one for a number of years, so I haven't been looking for one, sorry...

My 69 Firebird U.S. version is original and has a chrome chainguard and the shortie L.H. 3 fastener sidecover and is candy red.

Hi Guys . thanks for the answers, here is another. My twin mufflers on the left project beyond the rear fender. They are BSA items but overall length of them is 26" which I suspect is not correct.
Can somebody run a tape over theirs? Thanks Rob

The F B ones are shorter than on the other bikes. I'll try to get to mine today.

Here is my 69 A65F.
[Linked Image]

And a Fleetstar tank.

This would appear to be the same as a '70 F B but with holes for a parcel rack. I guess these could be filled and painted over.
Cheers
Sid.

I have a 69 firebird, we'll most, ok some of one. It's been chopperized. I got it as a basket case. Not sure what I want to do with it but those pics sure make me want to return it to stock condition.
Nice bikes.
