Now that winter is here, I have time to work on decals again. Many guys who follow this Britbike site have original, un-repainted oil tanks from the 1940's and 1950's. I am asking you for good. clear photos of the following two original decals. The ones on the market are not correct and I want to lay out and make proper ones. Decal # 1; First lines; USE ONLY B.P. ENERGOL WAKEFIELD Castrol VACUUM MOBILOIL Decal # 2: First Lines: USE ONLY PRICES MOTORINE DE-LUXE WAKEFIELD Castrol VACUUM MOBILOIL Although I know the wording, I need photos to show the letter styles and spacings. Thanks for any help on this project.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the reason for my research is to produce correct decals, not to perpetuate the mistakes others may have made. ACE cycle's decals might be correct, or might not, but how will I know until I see examples of the original ones as produced by Triumph?

I checked the website for Ace Cycles. The decals shown there are the same ones I see being sold everywhere...largely incorrect. They are better than having no decals at all, but many of them do not accurately duplicate the original examples I already have. Apparently, all the sellers are buying them from the same manufacturer.
Again I ask: can anyone provide pictures of the two original decals I listed above, on original factory-paint oil tanks?

Might as well take a chance on the other site as well. Cheers B

I have a scan through the Roy Bacon Triumph Twin restoration book but there were no clear photos of the oil tank decals both Unit and Pre-unit.

Thanks to the old-timer who asked to remain anonymous, I have photos of three oil tanks with the two original decals I have been looking for, and have completed the art-work needed to have them made.
Sir, if you are reading this, thanks again. Another piece of Triumph history is saved and will be accurately reproduced.

Great,
Any chance of seeing images of yours when finalised compared to the 'common incorrect' variety so we know what to look for? Even better if they are available commercially. I could use them.
A problem is that for many of us we never know until too late or until we are 'educated' by the likes of the truly knowledgeable in places like this who has 'correct' and who has 'crud".
Cheers Ray

Sorry for the dalayin replying.
I have never seen an all-original, un-restored "bathtub" Triumph. Other than the Triumph logo dacal on the rear number plate mount, "Made in England" on the top of the fuel tank, and the patent number decal on the nacelle top, where would the others be placed? The side panels cover the oil tank, so the three decals on that tank would not be visible.
Can anyone else help with this?

Irish Swede,This thread caught my attention,as I could certainly use a "good" oil tank decal for my 1948 5T. Are you ready for prime time?
Thanks, Paul

The decals being used depend on the year of your bike. The LOCATION of the decals on the bike also depend on the year and model of the bike.
Do you want photos of the original decals in their proper locations?
Please give me more details of what you need.
