I am having trouble locating Hastings .020 over rings for our 1972 TR6. The suppliers (MAP and British Cycle) say they are on back order but they have the Emgo rings in stock. I was guided away from the 'Taiwan" rings by Art Xanders years ago but don't recall why...can anyone recommend them or recommend me NOT to use them, or best case, tell me where I could get some .020 over Hastings rings?

Hi Bernie,
How goes it. Emgo will work, see the discussions on dry assembly, and break in.
Their weakness is the oil ring, so if you can find a hastings oil ring to go with them, that would be better. You could also pay some attention to making sure the rings are completely flat. And from what I have read, making the oil ring less thick should make for more scraping pressure. Unlike the other rings the outward pressure of the oil ring is only due to it tensile measurement and it is per inch so thinner is more pressure.
Else you can contact Jaye at britech I think he still has some hepolites, or knows someone with some. I met the guy at a swap meet. Or go for Jaye's gapless rings which he has made. But if you do you have to make some other changes too. Can not remember his name. Or go 30 over where some hepolites are available.
John has been working on getting a group of people to buy enough rings to have some made. Maybe that has happened by now. Ask him.

If you get ahold of Hastings, make sure to examine the oil rings carefully. Last summer, I had 2 sets with bad oil rings, confirmed by the people in Hastings, Michigan themselves. Running a set of EMGO's now with no problems at all. I'm also hoarding a set of NOS Triumph .020 rings that I might be talked out of.... Mike

Thanks all. Sounds as if the Emgo product has improved whatever their deficiency was....thats great. They are a bit cheaper too.
I'll order a set and look them over carefully. I was told by British Cycle that they took longer to break in. I guess we shall see....
