I am getting down to the nitty gritty on tghe A-10 project and am sorta stumped with the tank badges .What I have are the early stamped brass
"GOLDEN FLASH" badges and I originally wanted to leave them with an antiqued brass finish after having the chrome stripped . It turns out that this looked great on another A-10 that I saw somewhere, but it looked awful on mineso I had them replated . Now I have to paint in some areas and being a ham fisted goober when it comes to anything artistic I am looking for advice and tips that even someone like myself may be able to follow .

I'm not much of a painter either, but I did a pretty good job on a pair of cast A65 badges, with some nice thick enamel (like sign paint or model paint) and a couple of small brushes. For really small spaces, you may even have to cut all but one or two bristles off the brush.

Just lay the pieces flat and dab the paint into the recesses. Have a rag dampened with paint thinner handy to wipe off any "slips". Let each color dry completely before painting any adjacent areas - the paint thinner won't touch cured paint.

G'Day Bonzo. Are these the badges I swapped you for the A65 ones?
I ended up repainting the ones you gave me by masking off the areas I didn't want painted using a self adhesive film called Friskit ( I think ) . Got it from an auto paint supply store. Just like self adhesive contact but is resistant to paint thinners etc. Worked quite well but did get a bit of seepage under the film but just cleaned it up with cotton tips and toothpicks dipped in turps. I am not sure how you would do the bits between the feathers. Maybe spray the whole area and then wipe off with turps or thinners.
Dont worry about stuffing it up cos you can just strip it with thinners and start again.
