I've referred to the book many times while working on my bonneville and a whole series of 500s.

It's a good book, but remember that Stan is/was just one of a plethora of Triumph tuners, all of whom had their own ideas.

The book was written before the introduction of the T140, so bear in mind that although most of the information is relevant, there are many changes in design to take into account. Also, a number of the parts mentioned, are no longer available.

If you really want to get into tuning, there is quite a lot of info about Triumphs.

Personally, for my main road bike (the bonneville)I've always followed the theory that if I can tune it up to avoid vibration, improve fuel burn and oil delivery, lighten the cam gear etc, then it makes it nicer and more practical to ride. You don't have to do to much, to improve things drastically.

I'm just starting on a Triton project, which will have a lot more "tricks up it's sleeve".

Gets my vote too. I think some of the camshaft info is dated. Like bitsfalloff said it's pre T140, so the T140 inlet doesn't get a look in, neither do Megacycle, NRE or the like. Neither do Rickman/Weslake/NRE kits or later carbs.

Cam and timing methodology, Quaife gearbox photos are worth their weight. Especially as you can apply what you see to Triumph 4 and 5 speeds.

Good info, but some things have a different understanding now in the light of dynos, flowbenches and stuff.

That said every Triumph buff should own a copy, just like everyone should have at least one Jimi Hendrix record.

I took your advice and bought it. Now I just have to wait for it to get here.

For those who haven't heard of him before, Stan was boss of long-time Triumph dealers Boyers of Bromley which, under his direction, raced Triumphs so successfully that they were, depending on the factory involvement, either a semi-works team or deadly rivals.

Also, if you've noticed the word 'Boyer', he backed Ernie Bransden to develop and build the Boyer-Bransden electronic ignition at a time when he (Stan) knew his racers needed 'em to eliminate problems caused by points at high revs., but he couldn't lay his hands on Lucas Ritas.
