If your journal was worn out after only 80 miles I would check the oil pump especially as its a 66 engine.

Hopefully you have one of the DD or iron pumps fitted, if not I would buy the
SRM or new Hepolite pump.

Here. Ed suggests fitting the pump and spinning it over with a cordless drill attached to the tacho drive with a rubber pipe. With oil feed connected and pump spinning it should be possible to hear pressure build up and the OPRV blow off, there may be some leaks visible around the pump.
