Last Hurrah book & DVD The Last Hurrah Book & DVD
Ed's note: While reading the book and watching the DVD I tried to see my self on the same situation as Des & Dick. One can only admire what they achieved!

The most incredible journey probably ever done on 50 year old British bikes by riders who were even older! It makes Ewan McGregor’s & Charley Boorman’s trip look like a piece of cake! Des Molloy and Dick Huurdeman look like the sort of guys who should be sedately steering a sleigh in a Santa parade, not riding old single-banger British bikes half way across the world through some of the most difficult and remote terrain imaginable. Des's son Steve joined this intrepid pair as cameraman and general factotum for the highs and lows of an incident-packed three-month trek from Beijing to Arnhem on ‘Penelope’, a 1965 Yorkshire-made 650cc Panther, and ‘Dutch Courage’, a 1954 Norton 600. The route took them across the Northern-most of the Old Silk Roads over the roof of the world through China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, the burning deserts in Iran, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Germany and finally to Arnhem in Holland. The journey was as traumatic as it was inspiring with the bikes faring rather better than their riders at times! Was this idiocy or odyssey? Decide for yourself as you read Des Molloy's account of their adventures and misadventures.

The Norton CD is now into its FOURTH EDITION, and covers not just the Commando, but all the so- called "heavy-weight" twins (as opposed to the under- 400 cc twins) and the "classic" singles - the ES2, the International, and of course the Manx. There is of course a complete set of factory- issued Service Sheets for the Commando (over 170 pages worth!). AND we have added a new Maintenance Manual for the 16H, Big 4, 18, & ES2 singles, and more "memorabilia". There is also a NEW Engine Data Base which covers from the 1946 Model 18 to the 1963 Atlas.
