The most incredible journey probably ever done on 50 year old British bikes by riders who were even older! It makes Ewan McGregor’s & Charley Boorman’s trip look like a piece of cake! Des Molloy and Dick Huurdeman look like the sort of guys who should be sedately steering a sleigh in a Santa parade, not riding old single-banger British bikes half way across the world through some of the most difficult and remote terrain imaginable. Des's son Steve joined this intrepid pair as cameraman and general factotum for the highs and lows of an incident-packed three-month trek from Beijing to Arnhem on ‘Penelope’, a 1965 Yorkshire-made 650cc Panther, and ‘Dutch Courage’, a 1954 Norton 600. The route took them across the Northern-most of the Old Silk Roads over the roof of the world through China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, the burning deserts in Iran, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Germany and finally to Arnhem in Holland. The journey was as traumatic as it was inspiring with the bikes faring rather better than their riders at times! This CD covers AJS and/or Matchless machines from 1926 almost without any breaks right through to 1967 for Parts Lists, plus fifteen workshop manuals or out-of- print service and maintenance textbooks covering much the same period. Both twins and singles are covered, and one of the workshop manuals is a Norton Matchless full-on Workshop Manual that covers ALL models (up to 650 cc twins) from 1957 to 1966. The Norton-engined models are well-covered too in other works, and there are lots of lovely reproductions of sales brochures from various periods as well as some excellent histories of the Matchless marque and engine number details.
