I have a 1974 T140V US spec. The problem I'm getting is when I use a stobe, it just seams like guess work... I have a timing mark on the stator inside the chaincase but there dosen't seam to be nothing much on the casing itself. It looks like the pointer is missing or worse, broken off.
Can anyone help?
Looking at the picture might help.

Sometimes those pointers fall out and get lost. I keep one in my tool box just in case. Every good Brit bike mechanic does. You can easily make one or buy another. Install the new one with Loc-Tite.

If you can't find one, send me a private email and I'll send you the dimensions.

There is a furniture finishing nail the same dimensions as the pointer. And they come in stainless. Head diameter is a snug fit in the cover and the point is dead center. A light peen will hold it in for replacement.

RF, If you think that BSA nerd comment just slipped by, I'm working on it. Might consult with Rich B, perhaps Lannis.

Cheers fellas,
I'll have to get down to my local dealer and purchase one of those pointers.
