Hello everybody
Just got some x-mas greetings from Sweden. Helen and Boda said, they are planing for the BSA Summer camp near Paris.
Good to know; and probably not the only ones who do have to be prepared. Booking free time from work, see if the kids also have holidays and so on.
Question:
Anything known yet, who is in charge for the Camp, location, time, could there be any problems to get in to Paris with an old bike like ours ???? You know, they use to freak out nowadays about vehicles without filter systems. I heard something like there are no longer motorcycles, old Diesel and oldtimers allowed within Paris city limits...???
Well, i am not very often in France, but get confused by strange regulations, like: MC riders have to have alcohol test equipment on board while riding.
OK, somebody who can enlighten me?
And, of course the final question.
Who will show up next summer?
Cheers
Dieter

Hope it works out, it would be a shame if a country with as much beautiful scenery as France has, "legislates" and "regulates" its way into a place where no one can enjoy riding their old bikes! Maybe someone who rides old bikes there on a regular basis can give you the straight story!

I stopped believing for a little while this morning. Journey is really going to be upset.

The restrictions appear to be for the City of Paris proper... And not for all of France.

Paris has plenty of other Transportation options. I highly recommend the almost-free Paris Bicycles

I don't see any exemptions for classic vehicles on this site.

Sorry Dieter, I won’t be attending the summer camp. If it was at its original location (I believe closer to Limoges) then I would have been interested, I had even planned a tour to go with it.

Otherwise I wish all attendees a great time. I think at the last international it was mentioned that it was south west of Paris.

Otherwise I hope to be in Aus... riding a nice soft touring oif thunderbolt.... that’s the hopes anyway.

Edit, decided I’m not going to Aus after doing the sums.

Hi Chaps,
yes the Summer Camp will be in SE Paris, in Fontainebleau, the dates are 21st to 28 July.

The French club are sorting out the final details in their booking forms, and it will be released shortly to the BSA clubs in each country.

There will be a trip into Paris as part of the activities, however it will be by coach.
If you wish to take your own motorcycle into Paris, I do not know the current regulations, I will ask our French friends.

Andy

Concerning the Paris ban for older cars and bikes: Vehicles of more than 30 years old are exempt from this rule. www.autoblog.nl/files/2016/06/klassiekers-frankrijk.pdf
Nevertheless I would not recommend riding there, unless you have suicidal tendencies, those french ride/drive like idiots, and appear to be all out to kill you.

Well, let me just ask ... Looking at road crash statistics, about 5 out of every 100,000 Frenchmen will die in road crashes in a year. In the USA, about 11 out of every 100,000 people will die in such crashes. On a per vehicle-mile basis, I've still got a 50% greater chance of getting killed in the USA than in France.

Sounds like to me that I'm twice as likely to get killed in the USA on the road as I am in France on the road ... And I know that I don't "feel" that much danger every time I go out on the highway here ... and I'd be twice as safe in France .... ?

Could be; I was just commenting on the "everyone's out to kill you, don't drive in France" when the statistics say you're twice as safe in France on the road as the roads I drive on every day ....

Perhaps the volume of traffic is moving the stats? Example: I spend exactly 0 time riding a bike on the DC Beltway. That should improve my survival % by quite a bit. I can tell you from daily experience that those people really are out to kill you.

I agree. Stay away from Paris, if that is what you mean about bad French driving. However for the most part the French are very considerate towards bikers. Large parts of rural France are deserted and with roads in considerably better nick than in the UK so personally I find France a fabulous place to ride.

I've riden through france a handful of times, always found south of Paris to be fairly quiet and nice to ride... more so if you come off the motorways and go through the towns and villages.... although a satnav may be required.

Counting down: Less than 4 weeks to go before the start of the BSA Summercamp.
The Otte family from The Netherlands will attend the Summercamp with 4 persons, riding on 3 BSA's, one with sidecar. All the tents and other camping stuff packed jn 5 big army bags.
We hope the sun is shining and we will meet you all after a good roadtrip.
See you in France!

I wonder why there are no stories and or photos from the french summercamp...?
Sorry to say that i had to miss the meet this year. It did not match with the time frame of my buddy Theo; we were together out for the international Yamaha XT 500 meeting in Spain instead! Will post some stuff at R&T thread when i have sorted my pics...
Would love to hear some stories from the summercamp.

Did anyone from Britbike.com go to the summercamp?

Hi Dieter, Lannis
I went to the French rally, it was pretty good. The organizers got the weather wrong, 37 /38c was a bit too hot for this old guy, I am sure most people had a real good time. I spent most of my time sitting in the shade and drinking beer. Plenty of nice beezas and lots of runs to do, lots of old faces as well as new ones.
I just checked my PB account as I saw they had re-allowed my old photos but unfortunately I have to pay to put up new ones.
Sorry but that wont happen.
Pat A.

That's odd, I use Firefox and https://postimages.org/ opens fine.

I wonder if some rather more computer literate person can help us ?
